SUMMARY:Call for participants: Rome International Soup Festival 2023
DESCRIPTION:ESC Volunteering Team project in Rome\nAre you interested in the topics of food culture\, festival planning and social exchange?\n“Festival Internazionale della Zuppa di Roma 2023” is a Volunteering workcamp taking place in Rome from the 22th of March until the 6th of April 2023. \nVolunteering workcamp in Rome\, 2019 \nLa Città dell’Utopia\n“La Città dell’Utopia” (Utopia City) is a project of SCI Italy located in Rome (San Paolo neighborhood) inside the Casale Garibaldi\, an old country house located on a green hill in the middle of modern buildings. The project is an ongoing workshop on active citizenship and local development. There are different events\, initiatives\, courses and workshops organized around different main themes: interculturality\, sustainable lifestyles\, antifascism and active\ncitizenship. At La Città dell’Utopia we care a lot about our food consumption habits focusing on reuse and preservation to avoid waste. \nCall for participants:\nZuppa Festival\nThe International Soup Festival was born in Lille in 2001 and successfully spread across Europe to Berlin\, Krakow\, Barcelona\, Madrid\, Frankfurt and the Italian city of Bologna in 2004 and Rome in 2008. \nThe 16th edition of Zuppa Festival will be held at La Città dell’Utopia with the support of a large number of citizens and volunteers and aims at creating a moment of celebration around a unique\, rich and popular dish that is known all over the world. Participants will be competing for the famous prize “Mestolo d’Oro” (golden ladle). \nThe International Soup Festival has several aims:\n● Cultural\, social and human integration: meeting and sharing food together\, on the streets of Rome.\n● The artistic dimension: creating and mixing flavors\, in order to present them to the public.\n● The playful dimension\, involving cultural traditions exchange.\n● Everything is free\, all participants compete while offering their food to everyone.\n● An open manifesto\, encouraging everyone to participate. \nThis year\, the main themes of the festival are the celebration of food waste in a way that it can be reused to encourage the conservation of resources\, and the appreciation of making mistakes as a creative moment of growth. \n\nZuppa Festival – The Workcamp\nThe Camp will be divided in two parts: a study part and a more practical one related to the organization of the Zuppa Festival. \nActivities\nDuring the workcamp\, the volunteers will have a workload of around 6-7 hours per day. The main activities will be: \n● Supporting the organization of the indoor and outdoor spaces of the festival;\n● Supporting the preparation and running of the event “Zuppa Festival 2023” (Presence at the bar\, cash desks\, cooking…);\n● Supporting the promotion of the festival;\n● Tidying up the venue at the end of the “Zuppa Festival 2023”;\n● A possibility to create creative outputs from the festival: videos\, pictures\, interviews\, podcasts\, etc…\n● Contributing to some practical activities related to La Città dell’Utopia (gardening\, cleaning\, etc…) \nStudy Part\nThe study part will be focused on sustainable food consumption and local food production where the participants will be able to learn more about organic and zero kilometer food\, zero waste food and fair trade products with an ecological perspective. \nAt La Città dell’Utopia\, the volunteers will also have the chance to learn more about food habits and patterns\, with a main focus on Italian food culture\, vegetarian and vegan recipes and different cooking techniques. \nDuring the study part\, the goal will be to give support to the writing of a recipe book of La Citta dell’Utopia\, through: \n● Research activities and writing articles on food and different recipes that are usually cooked here;\n● Activities of editing the book\, that is\, making graphics and/or layout.\n● Proofreading the materials and recipes. \nRequirements\n● Interest in food culture\n● Group working skills\n● Interest in organizing and creating events\n● Artistic and manual skills\n● Motivation for cooking and gardening\n● Basic cooking skills\n● Being under 30 years old. \nLogistics\, financial conditions\, and sustainability\nSimple life: You will be hosted in the hostel of “La Città dell’ Utopia”. You will share a room with other volunteers. You will also share the two bathrooms of the hostel. We provide sheets and blankets\, but don’t forget to bring your own towels! \nMoney\, money\, money: This project is founded by the European Solidarity Corps program. Therefore\, we can cover all essential costs of the program (including food\, travel costs up to a maximum amount per country\, visa costs\, accommodation\, and pocket money). The travel is reimbursed after tickets and boarding passes submission. \nSustainable food: The food we will cook will be vegan/vegetarian. This is not just a practical decision\, but also an ideological one: SCI believes in the values of sustainability and climate justice – and if we want to contribute to a more peaceful planet\, we need to give up on industrialized animal agriculture and its destructive effects on our planet. You can tell us if you have any diets\, allergies\, or intolerances that we should be aware of. \nSustainable travels?: This is also why we ask you to come to this youth exchange by any more sustainable means of transport rather than flying (e.g. by train or bus)\, if somehow possible. We will guide you on how you can reach the venue once you are accepted to the project. \nHow to apply?\nYou can send your CV and Motivation Letter until the 28th of February 2023 to incoming@sci-italia.it We invite you to apply as soon as possible (all applications will be treated on arrival order). \nFor more information please contact: incoming@sci-italia.it

SUMMARY:No War Anywhere!
DESCRIPTION:CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS\nUTOPIAS AGAINST WAR\nInternational Seminar on Antimilitarism\nRome\, Italy | 16-22 April 2023 \nPart of the project “No War Anywhere! Engaging youth in antimilitarist education” \nThe Association of Service Civil International (SCI) is opening applications for an in-person 7-day seminar including arrival and departure days). The seminar will be hosted by SCI Italy with financial support from the Council of Europe’s European Youth Foundation and the CERV Programme of the European Union. The seminar aims to connect 24 (future) peace educators and peace activists in an open and supportive platform\, empowering\nthem to imagine a future without war\, to exchange ideas and boost their capacities to plan and implement successful local and international projects against war and militarism. The seminar will be based on principles of non-formal education which are participatory and dynamic. \nBackground of the project \nThe last year saw the escalation of war in Europe and around the world. People all across the world – be it in Ukraine\, Armenia\, Yemen\, Palestine\, Syria\, Tigray\, Myanmar or many other places – suffer under war and military occupation and its devastating consequences. And even political decision-makers in supposedly peaceful countries\ndecide to fuel militarism by exporting weapons\, investing in nuclear weapons and making trade deals with aggressors. With the climate crisis becoming worse\, the world seems to be going in a dystopian direction. We feel powerless\, angry and anxious when thinking about the future. \nImagining a future without war and militarism – and getting active for it. With this seminar\, we want to empower ourselves by starting to imagine a future that is peaceful. We want to discuss what such a future could be like from the perspectives of young people from different European realities. We will address urgent and important questions (such as nuclear disarmament\, military-industrial complex\, masculinities and militarism\, etc.) and offer young people the space and tools to stand up for peace. \nSCI wants to go back to its antimilitarist roots in 2023. This seminar is part of the year-long “No War Anywhere!” project. The project consists of these phases: \n● Seminar “Utopias Against War”: 16-22 April 2023 in Rome\n● Training course “Strategies Against War”: 25 June – 2 July 2023 in Vienna\n● Local antimilitarist campaigns around International Day for Peace: July – September 2023\n● Virtual exchange around follow-up projects: September 2023 \nAs part of the project\, we will also create an online course and a toolkit. The project wants to strengthen antimilitarist education within SCI and to bring together young people affected by militarism. During this year\, SCI also wants to form stronger alliances with other peace networks (such as War Resisters International and International Fellowship of Reconciliation). \nObjectives \n\nTo explore the topic of (anti)militarism\, increase understanding of the systems\nand their effects;\nTo brainstorm and collect pacifist possibilities and alternatives to militarism;\nTo build the knowledge basis and support system for future local or virtual action.\n\nParticipation \nFinancial conditions:\n● Food and accommodation during the seminar will be provided;\n● Travel costs will be reimbursed after the seminar up to an agreed limit depending\non the sending country;\n● We strongly encourage green travel (i.e. avoid travel by plane\, if possible; instead\ntravel by train and bus). We are available to give you advice on this and can offer\na higher travel budget for eco-friendly options;\n● Other necessary expenses\, such as visa fees or COVID-tests will be reimbursed\nafter approval by organisers. \nSimple life: The training will take place in La Città dell’Utopia in Rome\, which is a community house with simple living conditions. You will sleep in a room shared with a few other people and will be involved in cleaning and cooking tasks.\nSustainable food: The food we provide will be vegan/vegetarian. This is not just a practical decision\, but also an ideological one: SCI believes in the values of sustainability and climate justice – and if we want to contribute to a more peaceful planet\, we need to give up on industrialized animal agriculture and its destructive effects on our planet. After being accepted to the seminar\, you can tell us if you have any diets\, allergies or intolerances that we should be aware of. \nParticipant’s profile:\n● are (ideally) age 18-30;\n● can express themselves in (basic) English;\n● are resident in a Council of Europe Member State;\n● can potentially also participate in the second training “Strategies Against War” in Vienna\, 25 June – 2 July 2023;\n● are/ want to become active in the field of antimilitarist education or antimilitarist\nactivism in their communities or at the international level;\n● want to build/ expand their international peer network;\n● are motivated to bring forward their ideas and initiate peace projects in the future. \nReady to apply? \nPlease fill in the application form: https://forms.gle/5WbBvUtTxYZhkCJX7\nDeadline for applications is February 20\, 2023. We accept applications on a rolling basis.\nWe encourage you to apply as soon as possible.\nFor any questions related to the application\, please contact Pauline at projects@sci.ngo.
