DESCRIPTION:Every month we organise activist meetings to connect committed people\, talk about issues that are important to us as a peace organisation and find out how can we take action!  \n\n\n\nToday\, in times of right-wing politics that are on the rise all over Europe\, in times of war\, environmental pollution and climate change\, it is more important than ever to get involved and actively fight against today’s problems\, inequalities\, racism\, etc. \n\n\n\nThat’s why we want to dedicate our activist meetings every month to a different topic! During the following year we are going to speak about antimilitarism\, human rights\, environmental and nature protection\, antiracism\, antifascism\, prejudice\, stereotypes ect. and we want to find with you what actions we can take! \n\n\n\nNext meeting will be on Thursday\, 29 September 2022 at 18h and it will take place in our office community in Vienna [Schottengasse 3a/1/4/59]. \n\n\n\nThe topic of our next activist meeting is Biodiversity! SUMMARY:Learning Lab(oratory): quality non-formal education in the digital world
DESCRIPTION:Poland\, 27 October – 3 November 2022\nThe idea \nWith the Learning Lab(oratory) project\, we aim to improve the quality of non-formal and informal learning aspects of volunteering activities in our organisations\, in both physical and online formats. \nWe are a partnership of 9 organisations: SCI Austria\, CVS Bulgaria\, SCI Belgium\, SCI Germany\, CID North Macedonia\, SCI Poland\, Para Onde? They will include important/key aspects of organising any learning process (from needs analysis to concrete activities and evaluation). Each card will tackle a different step of the process. There will be some useful information on the card topic\, and a possibility to write personal notes. The cards will be laminated and envisaged for multiple usage thanks to the wet-erasable technology used.\nInfographic on Inclusion – it will tackle the topic of how to make our non-formal learning activities more inclusive. It will collect and summarize the practical information and tips & tricks shared during the project activities and will give specific advice on how to equally include participants with fewer opportunities.\n\nWe will launch these resources during the Open Webinar in December 2022. \nResults \nThe planned results of the project include: \n\n56 trained educators\, volunteers and youth workers\, with knowledge and skills allowing to conduct high-quality educational activities\, also in remote and hybrid modes;\nincreasing the potential of 9 project partner organisations\, developing their network of international contacts and possibilities of joint projects;\nat least 100 European youth organisations will use our Facilitator’s Cards and Infographic in 2022 and 2023 or take part in webinars organised within our project.\n\nAdditionally\, thanks to new opportunities offered by remote education and new technologies\, we will be able to involve more persons from rural areas and representatives of groups with fewer opportunities in our activities. SUMMARY:Play for Peace
DESCRIPTION:A Critical Look at Games in Educational Work\nActivity 2: Seminar from 16th to 22nd October 2022\, Mali Iđoš\, Serbia\nCall for Applications\nThe Project \nPlayful activities\, games and energizers are very present in the activities of international Peace and Volunteering\nOrganisations\, such as SCI\, VCV\, and their partners. They are used in volunteer camps to bring the group together\,\nand to work on contents during seminars and trainings. There is hardly any volunteering group that does not play\ngames during their projects. \nBut why are we actually using these playful methods?\nWhat should we consider when playing?\nAnd what are good examples for games & playful methods? \nGames in educational work got institutionalised without considerably reflecting neither their use\, their advantages\,\nnor their challenges. On the one hand\, games can be very helpful and useful in the seminar context. On the other hand\, they can be criticised regarding the reproduction of stereotypes or as violating the personal space of participants. To debate the role of playful activities and games in volunteering activities\, SCI Germany together with VCV \nSerbia organise this project aimed at trainers\, youth workers\, group coordinators and volunteers. During the 1st Activity\, the Play for Peace Training in April 2022\, participants from different peace and volunteering organisations gathered in Sonthofen/Germany to learn about the use of playful activities and games in Non-Formal Education and their huge connection to discrimination. They discussed societal power structures and how these structures\, as well as stereotypes and discrimination\, can be present during playful activities and games. Participants are currently implementing the outcomes of the training in their local activities and try to use playful methods and games that are more inclusive and peaceful. \nNow we are looking for applications and participants for the 2nd Activity of the project\, the Play for Peace Seminar in Mali Iđoš near Novi Sad/Serbia. During the seminar\, we will have a more detailed look at playful methods and games. We will try out energizers\, simulation games and board games that are useful for educational purposes. We will critically reflect on the pros and cons of these games. \nWe intend to develop a Manual on inclusive and peaceful games and energizers for youth workers during the seminar. Therefore\, a big part of the seminar will be to collect\, to discuss and to gather more information for the Manual. \nThis seminar also gives space to connect to other international organisations and to get information about their ways\nof using playful methods that are sensitive towards discrimination. We will have a big open space in which everyone\ncan share methods and games with the rest of the group. \nAfter the seminar\, there will be a Follow-Up Period. Two\, three and four months after the seminar\, we will hold joint video conferences with the trainers and all participants. The conferences aim to finalise the Manual\, to share updates on new projects that evolved during the project\, to strengthen the network and partnerships\, and to provide support to the participants\, for further project implementation. \nThis call for applications comprises the last two parts of the Play for Peace project:\nThe Seminar from 16th to 22 nd October 2022\, and the Follow-Up Period until early 2023. \nYou can join the project even if you have not participated in the previous activities. All activities will be held in English language. \nThe Venue \nThe seminar will take place at Katai Farm in Mali Iđoš\, Serbia. \nThe Team \nAn experienced team of trainers and facilitators of SCI and VCV will facilitate the seminar. \nLiving in a Group \nWe will spend one week together in a group of 30 people. 30 people with different backgrounds and experiences.\nFor us it is very important to take time to create a safer space to live and work together. For this we will set up a\ngroup agreement all together at the beginning. Please be aware that Inclusion\, anti-discrimination and reduction of\nstereotypes is nothing very easy and might be challenging for people. We invite you to come openly to the seminar\nand to be open to learn and reflect and on the same side be mistake-friendly! \nAims of the project \n\nCritically reflect on games used in non-formal education by raising awareness for different forms of discrimination\, as well as safer spaces to create more inclusive youth and volunteering projects\nRaise awareness and understanding of intersectional perspectives (global justice\, gender\, class\, race\, inclusion\, climate justice) when facilitating and organising youth projects by developing and sharing inclusive\, diverse and power-critical games\nUnderstand the role of peace and human rights in games in educational work\nImprove the quality of NFE instruments that can be used in future events\, projects\, trainings\, seminars and general meetings\nProvide youth workers with tools and methods for power-critical\, inclusive and peaceful games in educational work\nCreate a Manual for games in educational work that includes underlying concepts\, shared experiences with safer spaces in games\, and guidelines for peaceful playing\nCreate more and stronger alliances and solidarity in the peace and volunteering movement\n\nOutcomes \n\nJoint creation of the Manual on peaceful playing: NFE methods about peaceful playing\, a critical look on gamification of educational work\, and tips and tricks for inclusive and sensitive games in educational work.\nDevelopment of future projects.\n\nMethodes \nAs this seminar is about peaceful playing\, we will use many Non-Formal Education (NFE) methods\, especially games and energizers\, for critical reflection but also a broad variety of non-formal education methods\, such as world cafe\, snowball discussions\, research\, silent exhibition\, simulation games\, theatre\, visual harvesting\, arts\, energizers\, role games\, teambuilding games\, and more. \nEveryone who comes to this seminar should… \nideally be an active member and be involved in the process and decision structures of their sending organi-\nsation \n\nhave some experience in international group works as participant or better as trainer/facilitator or group coordinator\nbe interested in learning more about the use of games in groups and to discuss this critically\nbe aware of power structures and be able to approach them both sensitively and critically\nbe committed to abstain from flying\, but travel to the event via overland route instead;\nbe committed to spreading their new skills and competences to their sending branches\, e.g. via a workshop\nor a camp coordinator training.\nallow time and ideas for both the seminar and the finalisation phase;\nbe motivated to participate actively in the production of the outcomes and in the implementation period\nhave sufficient English language skills (spoken and written).\n\nOnly individuals with a residence or a passport from one of the following countries can apply: Albania\, Austria\, Bulgaria\, Catalunia\, Czech Republic\, Egypt\, France\, Georgia\, Germany\, Jordan\, Morocco\, North Macedonia\, Portugal\, Serbia\, Slovenia\, Spain\, Tunisia\, Turkey. \nPlease note that there will be opportunities to visit Mali Iđoš and its surroundings\, but that this is not a “getting to\nknow the region” project. On some days\, the seminar also foresees evening sessions. \nLogistics\, financial conditions and sustainability \nSimple life: The seminar will take place in a seminar house with simple living conditions. You will sleep in a\nroom shared with few other people. \nMoney\, money\, money: We can cover all essential costs of the program (including vegetarian/vegan food\,\ntravel costs up to a maximum amount per distance (maximum travel reimbursement amounts: 10-99 km =\n20 Euro\, 100-499 km = 180 Euro\, 500-1999 km = 275 Euro\, 2000-2999 km = 360 Euro. There might be higher\nallowances in case you use green travel means only\, see below)\, visa costs\, accommodation\, and seminar) through an Erasmus+ European project grant. Your sending organisation might ask for a small participation fee. We will reimburse your costs some weeks after project completion\, after you have submitted a complete expenditure summary with original receipts. \nSustainable food: The food provided by the house will be vegetarian/vegan. This is not just a practical decision\, but also an ideological one: SCI and VCV believe in the values of sustainability and climate justice – and if we want to contribute to a more peaceful planet\, we need to give up on industrialised animal agriculture and its destructive effects on our planet. \nSustainable travels: This is also why we ask you to come to this seminar through more sustainable means of transport rather than flying (e.g. by train or bus). You can reach Mali Iđoš by bus via Novi Sad from many places. We will give you more guidance on how you can reach the venue once you have been accepted to the seminar. If you chose to travel by green means (not by plane)\, your max. travel costs allowance might rise\, depending on where you travel from. DESCRIPTION:Training course for Youth Work(er)s \nCALL FOR PARTICIPANTS\n| 02-10 October 2022 | Diyarbakir\, Turkey\nWhat is this project about? \nGender equality means equal visibility\, empowerment\, responsibility\, and participation of all genders in the spheres of public life\, including the media. Though having a big potential in promoting gender equality\, the media still acts as a tool that creates and maintains gender stereotypes and plays a big role in gender and cultural-based discrimination. \nHow can we respond to this as youth workers? With these training courses we want to uncover the role of media and individuals in achieving the fundamental value of gender equality and create awareness at the local\, regional and international levels. \nDuring the training we will discuss\,analyse\, understand and propose new approaches and views to those subjects using new digital media\, creative activities\, social and multimedia tools. \nTwo training courses for youth workers in Diyarbakir\, Turkey and in Vienna\,Austria. We invite youth workers living in Austria\, Croatia\, Czech Republic\, Italy\, Latvia\, Poland\, Portugal\, Romania\, Spain and Turkey to come together from 01-08 October 2022 in Diyarbakir to discuss with and learn from each other about gender and media. \nLogistics and financial conditions \nSimple life: We will stay in a guest house of Youth and Change Association in the city-centre of Diyarbakir. SUMMARY:Queer Cinema in the Mountains [CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS]
DESCRIPTION:Photo: Ray Swi-hymn \nWhat is the project about?\nWith this youth exchange\, we want to bring together 28 young queer people living in Germany\, Greece\, Poland\, Austria and the Netherlands to discuss\, curate and create queer cinema. \nWe think\, we speak\, we listen\, we watch together. The stories that queer people and especially queer BIPoC see on screen are often very limited. It‘s rare that we feel represented by identities and narratives in films. This means we need to go deeper and deeper into a niche – intersectional queer cinema – that can be hard to navigate. And maybe we just need to tell our own stories and amplify our voices? \n7 days of queer empowerment in the mountains. This is why we invite you to a week of queer empowerment\, storytelling and filmmaking workshops\, curation workshops\, collective watching of (short) films by young queer filmmakers and discussions about them. We will have queer filmmakers and curators leading workshops at the project that will enable you to use film as a means to tell your own stories or as a form of community building. And we will be in the Austrian Alps\, enjoying some fresh air and possibly snow! \nNo luxury. The project will take place in simple living conditions\, rooms are shared between up to 6 people. Travel costs (up to a maximum amount\, depending on country)\, accommodation\, food and program are covered through a grant by Erasmus+. \nWhere?\nThe project will take place at a hostel in Bad Ischl in Austria. \nCosts?\n\nThere is no participation fee and the project will include accommodation\, travel costs up to 275 EUR and three free meals a day. This project is funded by the European Commission through the program Erasmus+. \nWho can apply?\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBe queer! This project is made by queer people for queer people. With this project we want to create a safer space for all of those of us who identify with being trans*\, inter*\, non-binary\, lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, pansexual\, asexual and queer. \nPeople with multiple discriminations prioritized. We want to encourage participants who feel they can bring various perspectives and especially queer BIPOC (Black\, Indigenous\, and People of Color) to apply. We will prioritize applications by queers who experience other forms of discrimination as well (e.g. racism\, classism\, ableism). The venue is wheelchair-accessible. We will do our best to make the project a safer space and we will create the project based on the individual needs of the participants. We also really encourage people who haven’t travelled at all yet or haven’t travelled a lot yet to apply. \nMixed space: BIPOC and white. This project is organised by and for both BIPOC people (Black people\, indigenous people\, people of color) and white people. As in any mixed space like this\, it is important for white people who would like to participate to be mindful and critical of their own privileges. DESCRIPTION:About the Green Belt Workcamp\n \n\nThe European Green Belt is a valuable ecological network along the former Iron curtain which divided Europe into east and west for nearly 40 years. The European Green Belt forms the backbone of Pan-European ecological network and provides a significant contribution to European “Green Infrastructure”. The Greenbelt-Initiative is an example of cross border cooperation and nature conservation. European Green Belt is a space for encounters between people and cultures and opportunities for a joint sustainable approach to natural and cultural heritage.\n\n \n\nWith this project in the Green Belt at the Austrian-Czech border\, the Austrian League for Nature Conservation – Lower Austria and SCI Austria want to link international cooperation and nature conservation. Through the involvement of the communities in the border area and the close cooperation between the local people and international volunteers in the context of the Greenbelt Camp\, we hope to bring peace\, cooperation and unification ideas of ​​the European Green Belt to life.\n\n \n\nIn order to preserve the diverse natural and cultural landscape along the European Green Belt\, nature conservation-oriented management – in particular of open land biotope types such as (semi) dry grassland and rock dry grassland – is essential. This usually takes the form of manual maintenance of the valuable and species-rich biotopes and can hardly be managed today without the help of volunteers. Young people are invited to work together to help maintain valuable biotopes on the Green Belt and are given the opportunity to learn about the history of this landscape.\n\n \n\nWhat will you do? In this Workcamp\, you will take concrete action to maintain biodiversity in a part of the European Green Belt zone along the border between Austria and Czech Republic and contribute to preservation of endangered species in this area. Almost every day\, we will work together for 5-6 hours. We will mow steep meadows and remove bushes from dry rocky grasslands that are threatened to be overgrown by bushes and trees. But don’t worry\, we will have enough free days in between to rest and get to know each other and the region.\n\n \n\nStudy part! Apart from contributing to protection of endangered species by physical work you will also learn about them as well as about other plants and animals in the area. We will reflect upon ecological problems and initiatives that one can take in order to support environmental protection and promote a sustainable green Europe.\n\n \n\nLeisure time! The beautiful region of Lower Austria offers a lot of possibilities for free-time activities. You can learn something about wine-production\, we will visit the castle of Falkenstein\, make a trip to Mikulov. There is also a little pond near our accommodation\, where you can swim during your free time. Anyway\, the free-time activities depend on you!\n\n \nWho can participate?\n \n\n 	Between 18 and 30 years old\n 	Motivated to take concrete action to improve the natural environment and resist global challenges\n 	Able to participate in the complete project\n 	Be aware that the work is physically demanding!\n\n \nWe explicitly encourage participants of all genders\, sexual orientations\, abilities\, races and ethnic backgrounds to apply. \n \n\nThis Project is founded by European Solidarity Corps. SUMMARY:Workcamp: Nature across borders
DESCRIPTION:About the Workcamp\n \n\nThe local partners\, National Parks Thayatal and Podyjí oversee the protection and ecological development of their respective regions\, with their particular biodiversity. Some areas in Thayatal and Podyjí need ongoing management to form sustainable habitats for rare species. Meadows and diverse dry grassland areas\, need to be taken care of to preserve them and their ecosystem functions. The management of national parks lays great emphasis on environmental education and visitor management.\n\n \n\nWhat will you do? We will remove invasive plants to prevent irreversible anthropogenic effects on the ecosystem. Secondly\, we will mow or rake dry grassland areas and selectively remove bushes and small trees to\nprevent the forest from overgrowing these species-rich open habitats. We will also have time to get to know each other and enjoy the early autumn in Austria and the Czech Republic.\n\n \n\nStudy Theme! You will gather knowledge of local habitats with their flora and fauna as well as their mandatory management\, including the challenges faced. Furthermore\, you will gain hands-on experience in maintaining dry grasslands and managing invasive species.\n\n \n\nAccommodation! At Thayatal National Park you will be staying in the Wildcat Camp. The facility is equipped with bedrooms for up to 6 persons with bathrooms\, a common room and kitchen. During time in Podyjí National Park\, you will stay in Havraníky in an old school. The building belongs to the National Park and is equipped with two dormitories up to 12 persons\, a bathroom\, a common room and a kitchen.\n\n \nAbout the Parks\n \n\nThe conservation area of Thayatal and Podyjí National Park covers part of the Thaya Valley river landscape. While cutting through the Bohemian Massif the river Thaya created an enormously diverse landscape along the river. Mainly the area consists of diverse forest but there are also meadows\, dry grasslands and\, as the name suggests\, aquatic habitats like the river Thaya or Fugnitz and some other trickels.\n\n \nWho can participate?\n \n\n 	You are 18 years old or older\n 	Be motivated to take concrete action to improve the natural environment and resist global challenges\n 	Be able to participate in the complete project\n 	Be aware that the work is physically demanding!\n 	English is the official language of the camp so please make sure you can speak it well enough for basic communications and to understand work and safety instructions.\n 	Before you sign up for this camp\, PLEASE make sure that you are healthy enough to participate\n\n \n\nWe will work 4-5 days a week for six hours a day with breaks in between. DESCRIPTION:We invite you to a webinar hosted by young people at an international antimilitarist youth exchange taking place in Austria at the moment! \n\n\n\nNo war anywhere! The current war in Ukraine has changed Europe and the world massively in the past months. Prices of food\, oil\, gas and electricity are rising fast. And this in the midst of an ongoing ecological crisis\, pandemic and militarized conflicts for example in Yemen\, Myanmar\, Tigray\, Palestine and Syria. How can we respond to this as young people? What can we do to bring about longlasting peace? How can we stand up against war and militarism? \n\n\n\nIn all the countries participating in the youth exchange that hosts this webinar\, the answer seems to be: Young people need to go to the military. Military service – or an alternative service to it – is obligatory for young men (or what the government perceives to be “men”) or they are thinking about introducing it. What does it mean for our societies that half of the young population is obligated to join the military? What experiences have we personally made around this? \n\n\n\nThis webinar will take place on Monday 15 August at 16:30 Central European Time (CET). The current war in Ukraine has changed Europe and the world massively in the past months. More than 6.6 million people have fled war and the Russian invasion of Ukraine since 24 February\, 8 million more are displaced within the country. Our governments respond to this in many different ways: Accepting refugees and trying to further diplomacy\, introducing sanctions against Russia\, raising military budgets and joining NATO (ordiscussing it). \nHow can we respond to this as young people? What can we do to bring about longlasting peace in Europe? How can we stand up against war and militarism? How can we support refugees and show our solidarity with Ukrainians? How do we feel about military conscription? \nAn antimilitarist youth exchange in Vienna. We invite young people living in Austria\, Cyprus\, Finland\, Greece\, Kosovo and Switzerland to come together from 10-17 August 2022 to discuss with and learn from each other about war and militarism. We will also explore the city a bit together and enjoy the sun. \nWe will discuss military conscription. In all of our countries\, it is obligatory for young men (or what the government perceives to be “men”) to do military service or an alternative service or our governments are discussing about introducing it. The context in our countries is very different. What does it mean for our societies that half of the young population is obligated to join the military? What experiences have we personally made around this? \nWe will spread the word. In this youth exchange\, we will also create online materials to spread in social media educating about and discussing war\, militarism and military conscription. We want to invite people around us to discuss these things too. We will also organise a webinar about the topic during the exchange. \nLogistics and financial conditions\nSimple life: The project will take place in a scouts center with simple living conditions. We will sleep in shared bedrooms. Vienna is close\, but also not. The venue is in the outskirts of Vienna. The next subway station from our venue is 25 minutes by bus\, so it is not a central location. We will have a free afternoon with the option of a city tour in the program and might make small trips to the city. Please be aware that if you want to properly explore the city\, you will need to stay a few days before or after the project. \nMoney\, money\, money: We can cover all essential costs of the program (including food\, travel costs up to a maximum amount per country\, visa costs\, accommodation and content) through a European project grant by Erasmus+. \nSustainable food: The food we provide will be vegan with vegetarian options. This is a practical decision and also a political decision because of the impact of animal agriculture on the climate and the planet. Please tell us in the application form if you have specific foods\, tolerances\, diets or allgeries that you would like to communicate. \nSustainable travels?: We ask you to come to this project through more sustainable means of transport rather than flying (e.g. train/bus)\, if somehow possible. We will give you more support on how you can reach the venue once you are accepted to the project. \nWho can participate?\nLiving in Austria\, Cyprus\, Finland\, Greece\, Kosovo or Switzerland and be between 18 and 30. We unfortunately cannot make exceptions due to our funding. The “group leader” from each country can also be above 30 years old. \nYoung people with fewer opportunities prioritized. We will prioritize applications by people with disabilities and chronic health conditions\, migrants\, people of color\, LGBTQIA+ people and working-class youth. We will do our best to make the project a safer space and take the individual needs of the participants into account. Unfortunately\, the accommodation is not accessible by wheelchair. \nNo previous experience with the topic needed. You are welcome in this exchange even if you have no experience discussing war or militarism with people around you. \nVaccinated or recovered ideally. At the moment\, there are no entrance rules around COVID-19 anymore for Austria. But due to the constantly changing situation\, this might change and then we would inform you. \nBe able to participate in the whole period 10-17 August 2022! DESCRIPTION:Youth Exchange | 2-10 August 2022 | Vienna\, Austria\n \nWhat is this project about?\n \n\nThere is a representation problem on Wikipedia. Some groups are better represented than others\,. Only 17% of all biographies on English Wikipedia are about women\, a lot of content about the Global South is missing. Also queer people – Lesbians\, Gays\, Bisexuals\, Trans* and Inter* people – are underrepresented.\n\n \nA queer summer camp around learning how to edit Wikipedia.\n \n\nWe want to gather young people living in Armenia\, Austria\, France\, Spain\, Sweden and Tunisia for a summer camp in Vienna around Wikipedia. We want to edit\, translate and add content on Wikipedia around queer people\, queer concepts and queer history. And at the same time\, we want to cook together\, discuss LGBTI+ issues\, go hiking and build queer solidarity across countries and continents.\n\n \nLet‘s make Wikipedia more queer!\n \n\nThrough the articles that we write we hope to increase the visibility of LGBTI+ issues on Wikipedia in different languages and also build knowledge fundaments for international understanding and solidarity between queer people. SUMMARY:Training [LIFE IN A DEGROWTH COMMUNITY]
DESCRIPTION:FROM GROWTH MINDSET TO DEGROWTH ACTIONS\n \nMARIBOR\, SLOVENIA\n \n21. – 27. July 2022\n \nWHAT AND WHY? \n \n\nDegrowth is a concept\, movement and a way of thinking which main emphasis is not merely on calling for less growth\, consumption or production\, but more fundamentally\, in inviting one to shift and re‐politicise the terms in which economic relations and identities are considered. Training offers interesting points of departure for conceptualising and practicing alternatives to consumer capitalism also in connection with deconstructing\nour perception of citizenship. Degrowth is mainly addressed by researches and not practically oriented so also non-professionals could grasp it. SUMMARY:Workcamp: Renovation and Gardening at Waldorf School Schönau
DESCRIPTION:About the Workcamp\n \n\nDuring this camp\, participants will help the local community in Schönau an der Triesing\, lower Austria\, by renovating and gardening at the Waldorfschool. Apart from supporting school renovation and gaining hands-on experience on gardening\, you will have a chance to participate in workshops that will focus on environment\, nature preservation and SCI peace values through non-formal activities such as interactive discussions\, theater of the oppressed\, activity games and visits.\n\n \n\nType of Work! Every summer a new part of the school building and the garden is renovated. This year the plan is to paint the classrooms\, to do some gardening\, wood work\, other building and renovation tasks. No previous experience is required. Apart from school renovation there will be a study part activities focused on nature preservation and SCI values. We will have group discussions\, reflections\, interactive games\, videos and documentaries about this theme.\n\n \n\nStudy Theme! You will gain hands-on experience in gardening and renovation and gather knowledge of Waldorf pedagogy. Furthermore\, this year you will reflect on environmental issues. We set this study activity up to be a lot of fun\, with a diverse range of methods\, with movement and without formalities. We will have discussions\, play games and watch documentaries.\n\n \n\nAccommodation! There will be a simple shared accommodation for the group. There are two sleeping rooms with mattresses – you will need to bring your sleeping bags. SUMMARY:Beyond Neocolonialism
DESCRIPTION:Solidarity and activist training for youth workers\nInternational training\, 3 July online + 17-23 July in Vienna\, Austria\nIntroduction\nEurope is involved in global injustices\, both historically through colonial history as well as in the present through ongoing economic and political injustices. European governments and companies have been enabling and driving unacceptable working conditions\, land theft\, genocides and civil wars\, lack of access to vaccines and medication\, the disappearance of cultures and languages\, etc. in the Global South. It is more than urgent for Europeans to step up in two ways: \n1) to raise awareness for European involvement in global injustices and how this is related to colonial history; \n2) to hold decision-makers in Europe accountable for these injustices \nCreating campaigns with young people against neocolonialism. In this training you learn how to create social media or activist campaigns around neocolonialism. You will identify a struggle or hot topic you want to work on and you will work on it during the training in an international group. The campaigns we finish will be published online on the channels of Service Civil International (SCI) and its partner organisations. Participants will learn basics in campaign strategy\, how to launch successful social media campaigns\, how to put pressure on decision-makers and how to deal with backlash. \nTwo parts of the training: Online meetup with the group and with activists from the Global South as an intro to the training. From 17-23 July we meet in Vienna to create campaigns together. “Beyond Neocolonialism – Solidarity and activist training for youth workers“ is part of the project “European Youth for Global Solidarity”\, funded by the European Commission through Erasmus+. SCI Austria\, as part of this project\, will also organise a training around the white savior complex in volunteering in December 2021. As an outcome of the two activities\, we will create an adapted version of the toolkit “The Power Behind Good Intentions”\, which SCI Austria has been creating with a series of post-colonial seminars in the past few years. \nParticipant’s profile\nThe participants will be staff\, activists and volunteers from volunteering and youth organisations. All participants will be expected and stimulated to contribute to the activities and discussions. They are very welcome and invited to come up with their own ideas and present some methods or workshops they are experienced in and they want to share. Please contact us in advance to tell us about it and we will see how it can fit best in the seminar agenda. 🙂 \nAdditionally\, we are looking for participants who are motivated and willing to subsequently disseminate and promote the project outcomes within their organisations and local communities and develop new initiatives and projects on these topics in the future – with the support of their sending organisations. \nAll participants selected for this project must meet the following criteria\n● be 18 years old or older\n● Live in one of the countries of our partner organisations: Albania\, Austria\, Czech Republic\, Belgium\, France\, Germany\, Ireland\, Italy\, Jordan\, North Macedonia\, Portugal\, Slovenia\, Tunisia\, Ukraine\n● might need to be fully protected against COVID-19 (vaccinated with a vaccine accepted by Austrian authorities or recently recovered) in order to enter Austria and to participate in the project\n● be able to work in English\n● be interested in the training topics (neo-colonialism\, global justice) and have a strong motivation\nto act as a multiplier\n● commit to implementing the learned knowledge and skills in practice back home\n● commit to being present for the full duration of the training \nWe explicitly encourage participants of all genders\, sexual orientations\, abilities\, races and ethnic backgrounds to apply. DESCRIPTION:About the Workcamp\n \n\nThe office community Schottengasse\, in Vienna has existed for decades\, providing critical initiatives and associations with working spaces and infrastructure. The community is composed of NGOs and associations involved in different fields\, embracing solidarity actions and critical approaches to promote a system change and tackle social challenges.\n\n \n\nThe community space is in particular used for supporting migrants\, deserteurs\, asylum seekers and people who are in need of an orientation\, juridical support\, need help with documents and procedures or are facing different sort of discrimination. The space has been also used for numerous free and open language courses for foreigners\, workshops\, free flea market for people in need and food sharing practices. However\, like the solidarity attitude of our community sometimes\, this place is old and needs to be maintained both with practical work and new activities for volunteers\, youths\, immigrants and people that might need it.\n\n \n\nWhat will you do? In this Workcamp\, you will support the community with the maintenance works such as painting\, fixing and repairing some parts\, renewing and changing some furniture of the community. You will work together with asylum seekers and local youth with immigration background as well as by members of the office community. Volunteers will engage for approximately up to 6 hours a day with some free time to rest and relax.\n\n \n\nStudy part! Apart from contributing to the office renovation by physical work you will also be engaged in workshops\, theater of the oppressed and impro-theater performances\, public events and other non-formal learning activities where you will be able to reflect about migration and learn about the challenges of being asylum seekers\, deserteurs and escaping from conflict regions. The study part will also depend on You! The idea of a workcamp is also that we learn from each other and you are invited to contribute to workshops with discussions and reflection about the situation of refugees and asylum seekers.\n\n \n\nLeisure time! You will have enough time to explore wonderful Vienna. SUMMARY:DETOX YOUR PROJECT [Reacting to Toxic Masculinity in Youth & Volunteering Projects]
DESCRIPTION:International seminar\, 22-28 May 2022 in Madrid (Spain) \nAbout the Project \nMen who talk much and loudly in group discussions but do little of the care work? Or who make sexist jokes and generally take up more space than FLINTA persons (=Females\, Lesbians\, Inter-\, Non-Binary\, Trans- and A-Gender Persons)? This sounds familiar and you are annoyed by behaviours like this? At youth projects\, participants and facilitators are repeatedly confronted with challenging situations caused by male socialization similar those mentioned above or even worse. These behaviors make a seminar less comfortable for everybody and need to be addressed and reduced by the facilitators. Especially when we discuss topics like Peace\, Justice or Discrimination a safe environment is crucial. \n“Toxic masculinity” is the term coined for a harmful set of behaviors that some men still continue to uphold. There is nothing toxic about being a man\, but some men act in destructive ways based on the gender roles they learned during their socialisation and think that they need to fulfil those: violence\, intimidating aggressions\, hyper-competitiveness\, sexual objectification\, and emotional detachment. Misogyny\, homophobia\, and transphobia are often reinforced through these behaviors. Women\, non- binary people\, and also other men are the targets of these behaviors. And “toxic” men even direct these behaviors towards themselves because they feel that they do not meet what is required of “a real man”. \nWe have observed these behaviors on larger and smaller scales in our volunteering and youth projects. With “Detox your project”\, we want to address the problem and enable facilitators to deal with toxic masculinity in their projects. With varying interactive methods\, we will reflect on our own gendered socialization\, discuss the topic and our experiences within the group and deepen our knowledge about toxic masculinity\, sexism\, gender and patriarchy. Based on this\, we will develop strategies to deal with toxic masculinity in our projects and share these through a toolkit that we’ll write together at the seminar. We will also discuss ways how to encourage and shape alternative masculinities during projects. \nDuring the seminar we are going to use a broad variety of non-formal education methods\, such as world café\, snowball discussions\, research\, silent exhibition\, theatre\, visual harvesting\, arts\, energizers\, self reflection\, teambuilding games and more. \nThe team\nThe seminar will be facilitated by an experience team of trainers of SCI: Sima* Jakob & Mira Weinberger. They are active trainers in the field of anti-discrimination\, gender and climate justice. They cover different personal perspectives on the topic of gender and masculinity. \nOur objectives\n• Providing young workers with basic training in masculinity studies so that we all understand the\ncontext and background to the behaviors of young men\n• Normalize basic activities for gender-safe spaces\, also in projects where gender is not the main issue.\nE.g. asking for the pronoun for everyone or creating awareness for gender equality on seminars\, for\nexample concerning talking times\, distribution of care work….\n• Raise awareness of how toxic masculinity behaviors can be observed among young people and during\nyouth work.\n• Develop strategies on how to deal with conflicts around toxic masculinity and create methods for\ninterventions\n• reflect on own socialization and how their gender roles influence their behavior today\n• Build foundations to support young people in developing positive views and understanding of\nmasculinities\n• Exchange with other people and learning each other’s experiences: good and bad practices. \nOutcome\nAs an outcome we would like to create guidelines for youth workers and volunteering organisations on toxic masculinity\, possibly as an annex to SCI‘s „Free to be you and me” -Toolkit. \nThe venue\nThe seminar will take place in the youth house “Albergue Juvenil El Escorial”. It is located in San Lorenzo de El Escorial which is in the countryside about 50km northwest from Madrid. \nParticipant’s profile\nThe project aims to gather 17 participants (up to 1-2 per partner organization). The participants will be youth workers\, trainers as well as staff\, activists\, camp coordinators and active volunteers from volunteering organizations. The seminar is open for all genders. All participants selected for this project should meet the following criteria: \n● be vaccinated against Covid 19 or recovered (obligation – see exact rules on the next page)\n● be 18 years old or older\n● be able to work in English\n● be interested in the seminar topics and have a strong motivation to act as a multiplier \n● Able to attend for the full duration of the seminar\n● be committed to spreading their new skills and competences to their sending branches\, e.g. via a workshop or a camp coordinator training\n● If somehow possible and feasible\, be committed to come to the seminar without flying\, and to\ntravel instead by overland route. \nWe explicitly encourage participants of all classes\, educational backgrounds\, genders\, sexual orientations\, abilities and ethnic backgrounds to apply. For this project you should either have the nationality of one of the following countries or living in one of them: Armenia\, Austria\, Bulgaria\, Finnland\, Georgia\, Germany\, Italia\, North Macedonia\, Polonia\, Rusia\, Serbia\, Spain\, Turkey. \nPlease note that there will be just few opportunities to visit the region\, but that this is not a “sightseeing” project. This seminar is a serious commitment\, and it needs to be taken as such. Thank you! \nLogistics\, financial conditions and sustainability \nSimple life: The seminar will take place in a seminar house with simple living conditions. You will sleep in a room shared with few other people.\nMoney\, money\, money: We can cover all essential costs of the program (including vegan food\, travel costs up to a maximum amount per distance (maximum travel reimbursement amounts: 10-99 km = 20 Euro\, 100-499 km = 180 Euro\, 500-1999 km = 275 Euro\, 2000-2999 km = 360 Euro).\, visa costs\, accommodation and seminar) through a European project grant by Erasmus+. Your sending organisation might ask for a small participation fee.\nSustainable food: The food we provide will be plant-based (vegetarian/vegan). This is not just a practical decision\, but also an ideological one: SCI believes in the values of sustainability and climate justice – and if we want to contribute to a more peaceful planet\, we need to give up on industrialized animal agriculture and its destructive effects on our planet.\nSustainable travels?: This is also why we ask you to come to this seminar through more sustainable means of transport rather than flying (e.g. by train or bus)\, if somehow possible. There are good train and bus connections to Madrid from many places. We will give you more guidance on how you can reach the venue\, once you are accepted to the seminar. \nCOVID-19 during the Seminar\nAt this point\, we assume that in May it will be possible to organize the seminar in-person in Spain. We will have a hygiene concept for the group during the seminar and will follow all regulations by the authorities. For the protection of all participants on site\, we will only accept participants who are fully vaccinated with one vaccine accepted by the Spanish government and the last dose (second or third) is not newer than 14 days and not older than 270 days. After it you need a third dose (booster). \n\nBioNtech/Pfizer Comirnaty/BNT162b2/Tozinameran\nModerna\nAstraZeneca/Covieshield/R-CoVI\nSinovac/Sinopharm\nJohnson/Janssen + a second dose with another vaccine from one of the above\n\nIf you’re recovered\, you need a Covid-19 recovery certificate. This is valid until 6month (180days) after your positive PCR test. After 6 month you need one vaccination shot with one of the vaccines\, mentioned above. This is valid 270 days after the vaccination\, then you need a second dose. We will also ask you to bring your own supply of FFP2 masks and a certificate of a negative Covid19 rapid test result no older than 48 hours (no exceptions). If the current situation in May forces us to do so\, we will either do it online on the same days or postpone this seminar to another date and will inform you immediately. DESCRIPTION:SCI Italy is looking for 1 group leader for the youth exchange : The Living Library Week\, which will take place from 4th to 13 th of May at La Città dell Utopia\, a social laboratory in Rome. \nA group of young people from Italy\, Catalonia\, Greece\, Hungary\, and Austria will have the opportunity to explore together the themes of emotional intelligence and interpersonal relations\, through the Living Library tool. Together we will become living books ready to tell our stories and to be read by other young people. \nThe Living Library methodology aims to build a positive framework for communication between people\, challenging stereotypes\, and prejudices through dialogue. The theme of each book is the life of a person\, and the narrator is the\nsame individual who\, through their voice and testimony\, shares not only words and expressions but also their own values and beliefs\, norms\, and myths of the communities in which they were raised. SUMMARY:Training: Play for Peace
DESCRIPTION:A critical Look at Games in educational Work\n16th to 23rd April 2022\, Sonthofen\, Germany\nThe project\nGames and Energizers are very present in the activities of international Peace and Volunteering Organisations\, like SCI and its partners. They are used in volunteer camps to bring the group together\, and to work on contents during seminars and trainings. There is hardly any volunteering group that does not play games during their projects. But why are we actually using these games? And what should we consider when playing? \nGames in educational work got institutionalised without considerably reflecting their use\, their advantages\, and their\nchallenges. On the one hand\, games can be very helpful and useful in the seminar context. On the other hand\, they\ncan be criticised regarding the reproduction of stereotypes or as violating the personal space of participants. To debate the role of games in volunteering activities\, SCI Germany organises this project aimed at trainers\, youth\nworkers\, group coordinators and volunteers. The project consists of 5 parts: 2 on-site activities and decentralised\npreparation\, implementation and follow-up activities. \nThis call for applications comprises the first three parts: \nThe Training from 16th to 23rd April with its online preparation period and the implementation and reflection period during summer 2022. However\, we recommend a participation in all 5 parts of the project \n\nOnline-Preparation Phase (starting mid march\, 1 month before the training)\nProject participants will receive the most important information for the project activities beforehand. This includes\ntasks for the individual preparation as well as questions and tasks to reflect upon.\nTraining (16th to 23rd April 2022)\nDuring the training in Germany\, the participants learn about the basics of the usage of games in educational work. The training will provide a basis for deeper discussion and reflection on problems and advantages of games with a critical perspective on power relations. Obviously\, in this training we will play a lot in order to add practical experience to the theoretical approach. The main topics of the training are:\nusage of games and energizers (why/why not?)\npeaceful playing for peace\nroles of facilitators/trainers/group coordinators\nhumour and fun in educational work\ngender-sensitive use of games and energizers\nstereotypes and discrimination in games\npros and cons of the gamification of educational work\n(dis-)advantages of educational games online\nfirst reflection on the content of a manual on peaceful playing in educational work\nImplementation and Reflection Period\nThe participants use the knowledge they have gained during the training to implement critical points and ideas on how to use games more carefully in their youth activities (e.g. in international Workcamps). They are asked to do a small personal reflection on each game they facilitated during their activities.\nOther Activities of the Project: As 4th part and 2nd activity of the Play for Peace project\, we plan another seminar in Serbia in autumn 2022. Participants will reflect upon their experiences with the games during their interim activities and discuss them further to develop a manual. Afterwards\, there will be a Follow-up Period to finalise the project outputs and start implementing new project ideas. There will be a separate registration for Activity 2. Participants of Activity 1 will be accepted for the seminar with priority.\n\nAll activities will be held in English language \nCall for applications\nThe Venue \nThe seminar will take place in the youth house “FUB der Falken Sonthofen”: https://fub-sonthofen.de/. It is a house\nowned by a socialist youth organisations and located in Sonthofen in the southern part of Germany around 2 hours\ntrain ride from Munich. Sonthofen is well connected to public transport and the house is very close to a lake and to\nthe mountains. \nThe Team \nThe seminar will be facilitated by an experience team of trainers of SCI: Marie Rolf\, Simon* Jakob and Hasna El Hiyani \nAims of the project \n\nCritically reflect on games used in non-formal education through sensibilisation for different forms of discrimination as well as safer spaces to create more inclusive youth and volunteering projects.\nRaise awareness and understanding of intersectional perspectives (global justice\, gender\, class\, race\, inclusion\, climate justice) when facilitating and organising youth projects by developing and sharing inclusive\, diverse and power-critical games\nUnderstand the role of peace and human rights in games in educational work\nImprove the quality of NFE instruments that can be used in future events\, projects\, trainings\, seminars and general meetings\nProvide youth workers with tools and methods for power-critical\, inclusive and peaceful games in educational work\nCreate a manual for games in educational work\, that includes underlying concepts\, shared experiences with safe spaces in games and guidelines for peaceful playing\nCreate more and stronger alliances and solidarity in the peace and volunteering movement\n\nOutcome \nInspiration for manual–contents: NFE methods about peaceful playing\, critical look on gamification of educational work\, tips and tricks for inclusive and sensitive games in educational work \nConcept and kick-off for research implantation period \nMethods \nWe’re going to use a broad variety of non-formal education methods\, such as world cafe\, snowball discussions\, re-\nsearch\, silent exhibition\, simulation games\, theatre\, visual harvesting\, arts\, energizers\, role games\, team building ac-\ntivities and more. As this training is about peaceful playing we will use many games and energizer methods in this training for critical reflection. \nParticipants Profile\nEveryone who comes to this seminar should… \n\nbe vaccinated against Covid 19 or recovered (obligation)\nideally be an active member and be involved in the process and decision structures of their sending organisation\nhave some experience in international group works as participant or better as trainer/facilitator or group\ncoordinator\nbe interested in learning more about the use of games in groups and to discuss this critically\nbe aware of power structures and be able to approach them both sensitively and critically\nbe committed to abstain from flying\, but travel to the event via overland route instead;\nbe committed to spreading their new skills and competences to their sending branches\, e.g. via a workshop\nor a camp coordinator training.\nallow time and ideas for both the seminar and the finalisation phase;\nideally be motivated to participate actively in the production of the outcomes and in the implementation\nperiod\nhave sufficient English language skills (spoken and written);\n\nPlease note that there will be opportunities to visit Sonthofen and it surroundings\, but that this is not a “getting to know the region” project. On some days the seminar also foresees evening sessions. \nLogistics\, financial conditions and sustainability \nSimple life: The seminar will take place in a seminar house with simple living conditions. DESCRIPTION:International training\, 10-16 April 2022 in Rom (Italy)\nAbout the Project \nLet’s talk about gender! A few years ago\, research about gender-based discrimination within SCI\nvolunteering camps was published and it showed the many ways how gender oppression/\ndiscrimination/ violence/ etc. exist within our projects. In many projects\, we still face a sexist division of\nwork\, sexual harassment\, sexist and queerphobic jokes or sometimes also just a lack of awareness\naround gender and LGBTQIA-related issues. How do we react to this? How can we create safer spaces? \nWhat you can expect from this training: \n\nmore awareness around what gender-based discrimination and violence is\nqueerfeminist educational and conflict resolution tools to adress gender-based conflict (e.g. microaggressions\, sexism\, etc.)\nnon-formal education methods to address gender in volunteering and youth projects\nself-reflection about your own practice as a coordinator/organiser/activist\nsharing best practices with other coordinators\, organisers and activists\ngetting to know many great people from around Europe and Southwest Asia\n\nOutcome: In addition to the above\, in this training\, we want to create guidelines for camp coordinators\nto address gender-based discrimination. The guidelines will be published as an addition to the existing\nSCI toolkit around gender “Free to be you and me”. \nCOVID-19 during the training \nAt this point\, we assume that it will be possible to organize the training in person in Italy in April\, but we\nwill have to see how the situation around COVID-19 develops. We will ask all participants to be fully\nprotected from COVID-19 (e.g. vaccinated with booster shot\, recently recovered from COVID-19). We\nwill have a hygiene concept for the group during the training and will follow all regulations by the\nauthorities. \nParticipant’s profile \nThe project aims to gather 26 participants (1-2 per partner organization). The participants will be youth\nworkers\, trainers as well as staff\, activists\, camp coordinators and active volunteers from volunteering\norganizations. All participants selected for this project should meet the following criteria \n\nbe 18 years old or older\nbe able to work in English\nbe interested in the training topics and have a strong motivation to act as a multiplier\nable to attend for the full duration of the training\nIf somehow possible and feasible\, be committed to come to the training without flying\, and to\ntravel instead by overland route.\n\nWe explicitly encourage participants of all classes\, educational backgrounds\, genders\, sexual\norientations\, abilities and ethnic backgrounds to apply. Unfortunately\, the venue is not wheelchair-\naccessible. \nLogistics\, financial conditions and sustainability \nSimple life: The training will take place in La Città dell’Utopia in Rome\, which is a community house with\nsimple living conditions.
