SUMMARY:Wikipedia for Peace: Queer [Edit] | 2-10 August 2022 | Vienna\, Austria
DESCRIPTION:Youth Exchange | 2-10 August 2022 | Vienna\, Austria\n \nWhat is this project about?\n \n\nThere is a representation problem on Wikipedia. Some groups are better represented than others\,. Only 17% of all biographies on English Wikipedia are about women\, a lot of content about the Global South is missing. Also queer people – Lesbians\, Gays\, Bisexuals\, Trans* and Inter* people – are underrepresented.\n\n \nA queer summer camp around learning how to edit Wikipedia.\n \n\nWe want to gather young people living in Armenia\, Austria\, France\, Spain\, Sweden and Tunisia for a summer camp in Vienna around Wikipedia. We want to edit\, translate and add content on Wikipedia around queer people\, queer concepts and queer history. And at the same time\, we want to cook together\, discuss LGBTI+ issues\, go hiking and build queer solidarity across countries and continents.\n\n \nLet‘s make Wikipedia more queer!\n \n\nThrough the articles that we write we hope to increase the visibility of LGBTI+ issues on Wikipedia in different languages and also build knowledge fundaments for international understanding and solidarity between queer people. And we want to attract more young queer people to the project to begin with!\n\n \nLogistics and financial conditions\n \n\nSimple life: The project will take place in a scouts center with simple living conditions. We will sleep in shared bedrooms. Vienna is close\, but also not. The venue is in the outskirts of Vienna. The next subway station from our venue is 25 minutes by bus\, so it is not a central location. We will have a free afternoon with the option of a city tour in the program and might make small trips to the city. Please be aware that if you want to properly explore the city\, you will need to stay a few days before or after the project.\n\n \n\nMoney\, money\, money: We can cover all essential costs of the program (including food\, travel costs up to a maximum amount per country\, visa costs\, accommodation and content) through a European project grant by Erasmus+.\n\n \n\nSustainable food: The food we provide will be vegan with vegetarian options. This is a practical decision and also a political decision because of the impact of animal agriculture on the climate and the planet. Please tell us in the application form if you have specific foods\, tolerances\, diets or allgeries that you would like to communicate.\n\n \n\nSustainable travels?: We ask you to come to this project through more sustainable means of transport rather than flying (e.g. train/bus)\, if somehow possible. We will give you more support on how you can reach the venue once you are accepted to the project.\n\n \nWho can participate?\n \n\nBe queer\, questioning or a strong ally. This project is made by LGBTQIA+ people for LGBTQIA+ people or those who are still on discovery for their sexual or/and gender identity. With this project\, we want to create a safer space for all of those of us who identify with being trans\, inter\, non-binary\, lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, pansexual\, asexual and queer.\n\n \n\nPeople with multiple discriminations prioritized. We will prioritize applications by LGBTQIA* people who also experience other forms of discrimination (e.g. racism\, classism\, ableism). We also want to include diverse identities within the LGBTIQA+ community. We will do our best to make the project a safer space and take the individual needs of the participants into account. Unfortunately\, the accommodation is not accessible by wheelchair.\n\n \n\nNo previous experience with Wikipedia needed. The project will teach you all the basics\, if you are a newcomer. If you are already experienced with Wikipedia\, you can support others or just start editing right away.\n\n \n\nVaccinated or recovered ideally. At the moment\, there are no entrance rules around COVID-19 anymore for Austria. But due to the constantly changing situation\, this might change and then we would inform you.\n\n \n\nLiving in Armenia\, Austria\, France\, Spain\, Sweden or Tunisia and be between 18 and 30! DESCRIPTION:FROM GROWTH MINDSET TO DEGROWTH ACTIONS\n \nMARIBOR\, SLOVENIA\n \n21. – 27. July 2022\n \nWHAT AND WHY? \n \n\nDegrowth is a concept\, movement and a way of thinking which main emphasis is not merely on calling for less growth\, consumption or production\, but more fundamentally\, in inviting one to shift and re‐politicise the terms in which economic relations and identities are considered. Training offers interesting points of departure for conceptualising and practicing alternatives to consumer capitalism also in connection with deconstructing\nour perception of citizenship. Degrowth is mainly addressed by researches and not practically oriented so also non-professionals could grasp it. SUMMARY:Workcamp: Renovation and Gardening at Waldorf School Schönau
DESCRIPTION:About the Workcamp\n \n\nDuring this camp\, participants will help the local community in Schönau an der Triesing\, lower Austria\, by renovating and gardening at the Waldorfschool. Apart from supporting school renovation and gaining hands-on experience on gardening\, you will have a chance to participate in workshops that will focus on environment\, nature preservation and SCI peace values through non-formal activities such as interactive discussions\, theater of the oppressed\, activity games and visits.\n\n \n\nType of Work! Every summer a new part of the school building and the garden is renovated. This year the plan is to paint the classrooms\, to do some gardening\, wood work\, other building and renovation tasks. No previous experience is required. Apart from school renovation there will be a study part activities focused on nature preservation and SCI values. We will have group discussions\, reflections\, interactive games\, videos and documentaries about this theme.\n\n \n\nStudy Theme! You will gain hands-on experience in gardening and renovation and gather knowledge of Waldorf pedagogy. Furthermore\, this year you will reflect on environmental issues. We set this study activity up to be a lot of fun\, with a diverse range of methods\, with movement and without formalities. We will have discussions\, play games and watch documentaries.\n\n \n\nAccommodation! There will be a simple shared accommodation for the group. There are two sleeping rooms with mattresses – you will need to bring your sleeping bags. SUMMARY:Beyond Neocolonialism
DESCRIPTION:Solidarity and activist training for youth workers\nInternational training\, 3 July online + 17-23 July in Vienna\, Austria\nIntroduction\nEurope is involved in global injustices\, both historically through colonial history as well as in the present through ongoing economic and political injustices. European governments and companies have been enabling and driving unacceptable working conditions\, land theft\, genocides and civil wars\, lack of access to vaccines and medication\, the disappearance of cultures and languages\, etc. in the Global South. It is more than urgent for Europeans to step up in two ways: \n1) to raise awareness for European involvement in global injustices and how this is related to colonial history; \n2) to hold decision-makers in Europe accountable for these injustices \nCreating campaigns with young people against neocolonialism. In this training you learn how to create social media or activist campaigns around neocolonialism. You will identify a struggle or hot topic you want to work on and you will work on it during the training in an international group. The campaigns we finish will be published online on the channels of Service Civil International (SCI) and its partner organisations. Participants will learn basics in campaign strategy\, how to launch successful social media campaigns\, how to put pressure on decision-makers and how to deal with backlash. \nTwo parts of the training: Online meetup with the group and with activists from the Global South as an intro to the training. From 17-23 July we meet in Vienna to create campaigns together. “Beyond Neocolonialism – Solidarity and activist training for youth workers“ is part of the project “European Youth for Global Solidarity”\, funded by the European Commission through Erasmus+. SCI Austria\, as part of this project\, will also organise a training around the white savior complex in volunteering in December 2021. As an outcome of the two activities\, we will create an adapted version of the toolkit “The Power Behind Good Intentions”\, which SCI Austria has been creating with a series of post-colonial seminars in the past few years. \nParticipant’s profile\nThe participants will be staff\, activists and volunteers from volunteering and youth organisations. All participants will be expected and stimulated to contribute to the activities and discussions. They are very welcome and invited to come up with their own ideas and present some methods or workshops they are experienced in and they want to share. SUMMARY:Workcamp: RenOffice: Empowerment\, Solidarity and Community Development
DESCRIPTION:About the Workcamp\n \n\nThe office community Schottengasse\, in Vienna has existed for decades\, providing critical initiatives and associations with working spaces and infrastructure. The community is composed of NGOs and associations involved in different fields\, embracing solidarity actions and critical approaches to promote a system change and tackle social challenges.\n\n \n\nThe community space is in particular used for supporting migrants\, deserteurs\, asylum seekers and people who are in need of an orientation\, juridical support\, need help with documents and procedures or are facing different sort of discrimination. The space has been also used for numerous free and open language courses for foreigners\, workshops\, free flea market for people in need and food sharing practices. However\, like the solidarity attitude of our community sometimes\, this place is old and needs to be maintained both with practical work and new activities for volunteers\, youths\, immigrants and people that might need it.\n\n \n\nWhat will you do? In this Workcamp\, you will support the community with the maintenance works such as painting\, fixing and repairing some parts\, renewing and changing some furniture of the community. You will work together with asylum seekers and local youth with immigration background as well as by members of the office community. Volunteers will engage for approximately up to 6 hours a day with some free time to rest and relax.\n\n \n\nStudy part! Apart from contributing to the office renovation by physical work you will also be engaged in workshops\, theater of the oppressed and impro-theater performances\, public events and other non-formal learning activities where you will be able to reflect about migration and learn about the challenges of being asylum seekers\, deserteurs and escaping from conflict regions. The study part will also depend on You! The idea of a workcamp is also that we learn from each other and you are invited to contribute to workshops with discussions and reflection about the situation of refugees and asylum seekers.\n\n \n\nLeisure time! You will have enough time to explore wonderful Vienna. On the weekends we can go hiking\, visit museums\, theater ect.\n\n \nWho can participate?\n \n\n 	Between 18 and 30 years old\n 	Be interested in the topic\n 	Able to participate in the complete project\n 	Be aware that the work is physically demanding!\n\n \nWe explicitly encourage participants of all genders\, sexual orientations\, abilities\, races and ethnic backgrounds to apply. \n \n\nThis Project is founded by the European Solidarity Corps. SUMMARY:DETOX YOUR PROJECT [Reacting to Toxic Masculinity in Youth & Volunteering Projects]
DESCRIPTION:International seminar\, 22-28 May 2022 in Madrid (Spain) \nAbout the Project \nMen who talk much and loudly in group discussions but do little of the care work? Or who make sexist jokes and generally take up more space than FLINTA persons (=Females\, Lesbians\, Inter-\, Non-Binary\, Trans- and A-Gender Persons)? This sounds familiar and you are annoyed by behaviours like this? At youth projects\, participants and facilitators are repeatedly confronted with challenging situations caused by male socialization similar those mentioned above or even worse. These behaviors make a seminar less comfortable for everybody and need to be addressed and reduced by the facilitators. Especially when we discuss topics like Peace\, Justice or Discrimination a safe environment is crucial. \n“Toxic masculinity” is the term coined for a harmful set of behaviors that some men still continue to uphold. There is nothing toxic about being a man\, but some men act in destructive ways based on the gender roles they learned during their socialisation and think that they need to fulfil those: violence\, intimidating aggressions\, hyper-competitiveness\, sexual objectification\, and emotional detachment. Misogyny\, homophobia\, and transphobia are often reinforced through these behaviors. Women\, non- binary people\, and also other men are the targets of these behaviors. And “toxic” men even direct these behaviors towards themselves because they feel that they do not meet what is required of “a real man”. \nWe have observed these behaviors on larger and smaller scales in our volunteering and youth projects. With “Detox your project”\, we want to address the problem and enable facilitators to deal with toxic masculinity in their projects. With varying interactive methods\, we will reflect on our own gendered socialization\, discuss the topic and our experiences within the group and deepen our knowledge about toxic masculinity\, sexism\, gender and patriarchy. Based on this\, we will develop strategies to deal with toxic masculinity in our projects and share these through a toolkit that we’ll write together at the seminar. We will also discuss ways how to encourage and shape alternative masculinities during projects. \nDuring the seminar we are going to use a broad variety of non-formal education methods\, such as world café\, snowball discussions\, research\, silent exhibition\, theatre\, visual harvesting\, arts\, energizers\, self reflection\, teambuilding games and more. \nThe team\nThe seminar will be facilitated by an experience team of trainers of SCI: Sima* Jakob & Mira Weinberger. They are active trainers in the field of anti-discrimination\, gender and climate justice. They cover different personal perspectives on the topic of gender and masculinity. \nOur objectives\n• Providing young workers with basic training in masculinity studies so that we all understand the\ncontext and background to the behaviors of young men\n• Normalize basic activities for gender-safe spaces\, also in projects where gender is not the main issue.\nE.g. asking for the pronoun for everyone or creating awareness for gender equality on seminars\, for\nexample concerning talking times\, distribution of care work….\n• Raise awareness of how toxic masculinity behaviors can be observed among young people and during\nyouth work.\n• Develop strategies on how to deal with conflicts around toxic masculinity and create methods for\ninterventions\n• reflect on own socialization and how their gender roles influence their behavior today\n• Build foundations to support young people in developing positive views and understanding of\nmasculinities\n• Exchange with other people and learning each other’s experiences: good and bad practices. \nOutcome\nAs an outcome we would like to create guidelines for youth workers and volunteering organisations on toxic masculinity\, possibly as an annex to SCI‘s „Free to be you and me” -Toolkit. \nThe venue\nThe seminar will take place in the youth house “Albergue Juvenil El Escorial”. It is located in San Lorenzo de El Escorial which is in the countryside about 50km northwest from Madrid. \nParticipant’s profile\nThe project aims to gather 17 participants (up to 1-2 per partner organization). The participants will be youth workers\, trainers as well as staff\, activists\, camp coordinators and active volunteers from volunteering organizations. The seminar is open for all genders. All participants selected for this project should meet the following criteria: \n● be vaccinated against Covid 19 or recovered (obligation – see exact rules on the next page)\n● be 18 years old or older\n● be able to work in English\n● be interested in the seminar topics and have a strong motivation to act as a multiplier \n● Able to attend for the full duration of the seminar\n● be committed to spreading their new skills and competences to their sending branches\, e.g. via a workshop or a camp coordinator training\n● If somehow possible and feasible\, be committed to come to the seminar without flying\, and to\ntravel instead by overland route. \nWe explicitly encourage participants of all classes\, educational backgrounds\, genders\, sexual orientations\, abilities and ethnic backgrounds to apply. For this project you should either have the nationality of one of the following countries or living in one of them: Armenia\, Austria\, Bulgaria\, Finnland\, Georgia\, Germany\, Italia\, North Macedonia\, Polonia\, Rusia\, Serbia\, Spain\, Turkey. \nPlease note that there will be just few opportunities to visit the region\, but that this is not a “sightseeing” project. This seminar is a serious commitment\, and it needs to be taken as such. Thank you! \nLogistics\, financial conditions and sustainability \nSimple life: The seminar will take place in a seminar house with simple living conditions. You will sleep in a room shared with few other people.\nMoney\, money\, money: We can cover all essential costs of the program (including vegan food\, travel costs up to a maximum amount per distance (maximum travel reimbursement amounts: 10-99 km = 20 Euro\, 100-499 km = 180 Euro\, 500-1999 km = 275 Euro\, 2000-2999 km = 360 Euro).\, visa costs\, accommodation and seminar) through a European project grant by Erasmus+. Your sending organisation might ask for a small participation fee.\nSustainable food: The food we provide will be plant-based (vegetarian/vegan). This is not just a practical decision\, but also an ideological one: SCI believes in the values of sustainability and climate justice – and if we want to contribute to a more peaceful planet\, we need to give up on industrialized animal agriculture and its destructive effects on our planet.\nSustainable travels?: This is also why we ask you to come to this seminar through more sustainable means of transport rather than flying (e.g. by train or bus)\, if somehow possible. There are good train and bus connections to Madrid from many places. We will give you more guidance on how you can reach the venue\, once you are accepted to the seminar. \nCOVID-19 during the Seminar\nAt this point\, we assume that in May it will be possible to organize the seminar in-person in Spain. We will have a hygiene concept for the group during the seminar and will follow all regulations by the authorities. For the protection of all participants on site\, we will only accept participants who are fully vaccinated with one vaccine accepted by the Spanish government and the last dose (second or third) is not newer than 14 days and not older than 270 days. After it you need a third dose (booster). \n\nBioNtech/Pfizer Comirnaty/BNT162b2/Tozinameran\nModerna\nAstraZeneca/Covieshield/R-CoVI\nSinovac/Sinopharm\nJohnson/Janssen + a second dose with another vaccine from one of the above\n\nIf you’re recovered\, you need a Covid-19 recovery certificate. This is valid until 6month (180days) after your positive PCR test. After 6 month you need one vaccination shot with one of the vaccines\, mentioned above. This is valid 270 days after the vaccination\, then you need a second dose. We will also ask you to bring your own supply of FFP2 masks and a certificate of a negative Covid19 rapid test result no older than 48 hours (no exceptions). If the current situation in May forces us to do so\, we will either do it online on the same days or postpone this seminar to another date and will inform you immediately. DESCRIPTION:SCI Italy is looking for 1 group leader for the youth exchange : The Living Library Week\, which will take place from 4th to 13 th of May at La Città dell Utopia\, a social laboratory in Rome. \nA group of young people from Italy\, Catalonia\, Greece\, Hungary\, and Austria will have the opportunity to explore together the themes of emotional intelligence and interpersonal relations\, through the Living Library tool. Together we will become living books ready to tell our stories and to be read by other young people. \nThe Living Library methodology aims to build a positive framework for communication between people\, challenging stereotypes\, and prejudices through dialogue. The theme of each book is the life of a person\, and the narrator is the\nsame individual who\, through their voice and testimony\, shares not only words and expressions but also their own values and beliefs\, norms\, and myths of the communities in which they were raised. This methodology allows not only to bring people together but also to develop their emotional abilities with an important impact in terms of personal development and active citizenship. \nAn online preparatory meeting (APV) for the project is going to take place on the following days: 21 st \, 23 rd and 25 th of March. \nWhat does a Group Leader do?\nBEFORE the Youth Exchange: \n\nParticipate in 2 online meetings with the organizational team\nSupport the people who coordinate the project in the preparation of the online preparatory meeting (APV)\nHelp with the logistics of your group (organize trips\, prepare meetings with the group\, collect specific needs)\nHelp in the selection and preparation of participants and activities\n\nDURING the Youth Exchange: \n\nResponsible for your group (well-being\, motivation\, and team spirit)\nSupport the implementation of activities\nDaily evaluation within the group\nBeing responsible for the Exchange program and program\n\nAFTER the Exchange: \n\nSupport the reporting\nHelping with the administration (collect tickets\, photos\, reports\, assessments\, etc.)\n\nWho are we looking for?\nThe ideal group leader: \n\nhas experience in working with young people\, coordinating groups and non-formal education methods\nis interested\, motivated and willing to follow the project from beginning to end\nhas a good knowledge of English and Italian and is able to translate for his group if necessary\nhas a positive and proactive attitude\nis very patient\, tolerant\, and open-minded\nhas good organizational skills\nis able to cooperate with the organizational team\nfeels responsible for the group\, especially for the participants\, who come from difficult contexts\n\nLogistics\, financial conditions\, and sustainability \nSimple life: The training will take place in La Città dell’Utopia in Rome\, which is a community house with simple living conditions. SUMMARY:Training: Play for Peace
DESCRIPTION:A critical Look at Games in educational Work\n16th to 23rd April 2022\, Sonthofen\, Germany\nThe project\nGames and Energizers are very present in the activities of international Peace and Volunteering Organisations\, like SCI and its partners. They are used in volunteer camps to bring the group together\, and to work on contents during seminars and trainings. There is hardly any volunteering group that does not play games during their projects. But why are we actually using these games? And what should we consider when playing? \nGames in educational work got institutionalised without considerably reflecting their use\, their advantages\, and their\nchallenges. On the one hand\, games can be very helpful and useful in the seminar context. On the other hand\, they\ncan be criticised regarding the reproduction of stereotypes or as violating the personal space of participants. To debate the role of games in volunteering activities\, SCI Germany organises this project aimed at trainers\, youth\nworkers\, group coordinators and volunteers. The project consists of 5 parts: 2 on-site activities and decentralised\npreparation\, implementation and follow-up activities. \nThis call for applications comprises the first three parts: \nThe Training from 16th to 23rd April with its online preparation period and the implementation and reflection period during summer 2022. However\, we recommend a participation in all 5 parts of the project \n\nOnline-Preparation Phase (starting mid march\, 1 month before the training)\nProject participants will receive the most important information for the project activities beforehand. This includes\ntasks for the individual preparation as well as questions and tasks to reflect upon.\nTraining (16th to 23rd April 2022)\nDuring the training in Germany\, the participants learn about the basics of the usage of games in educational work. The training will provide a basis for deeper discussion and reflection on problems and advantages of games with a critical perspective on power relations. Obviously\, in this training we will play a lot in order to add practical experience to the theoretical approach. The main topics of the training are:\nusage of games and energizers (why/why not?)\npeaceful playing for peace\nroles of facilitators/trainers/group coordinators\nhumour and fun in educational work\ngender-sensitive use of games and energizers\nstereotypes and discrimination in games\npros and cons of the gamification of educational work\n(dis-)advantages of educational games online\nfirst reflection on the content of a manual on peaceful playing in educational work\nImplementation and Reflection Period\nThe participants use the knowledge they have gained during the training to implement critical points and ideas on how to use games more carefully in their youth activities (e.g. in international Workcamps). They are asked to do a small personal reflection on each game they facilitated during their activities.\nOther Activities of the Project: As 4th part and 2nd activity of the Play for Peace project\, we plan another seminar in Serbia in autumn 2022. Participants will reflect upon their experiences with the games during their interim activities and discuss them further to develop a manual. Afterwards\, there will be a Follow-up Period to finalise the project outputs and start implementing new project ideas. There will be a separate registration for Activity 2. Participants of Activity 1 will be accepted for the seminar with priority.\n\nAll activities will be held in English language \nCall for applications\nThe Venue \nThe seminar will take place in the youth house “FUB der Falken Sonthofen”: https://fub-sonthofen.de/. It is a house\nowned by a socialist youth organisations and located in Sonthofen in the southern part of Germany around 2 hours\ntrain ride from Munich. Sonthofen is well connected to public transport and the house is very close to a lake and to\nthe mountains. \nThe Team \nThe seminar will be facilitated by an experience team of trainers of SCI: Marie Rolf\, Simon* Jakob and Hasna El Hiyani \nAims of the project \n\nCritically reflect on games used in non-formal education through sensibilisation for different forms of discrimination as well as safer spaces to create more inclusive youth and volunteering projects.\nRaise awareness and understanding of intersectional perspectives (global justice\, gender\, class\, race\, inclusion\, climate justice) when facilitating and organising youth projects by developing and sharing inclusive\, diverse and power-critical games\nUnderstand the role of peace and human rights in games in educational work\nImprove the quality of NFE instruments that can be used in future events\, projects\, trainings\, seminars and general meetings\nProvide youth workers with tools and methods for power-critical\, inclusive and peaceful games in educational work\nCreate a manual for games in educational work\, that includes underlying concepts\, shared experiences with safe spaces in games and guidelines for peaceful playing\nCreate more and stronger alliances and solidarity in the peace and volunteering movement\n\nOutcome \nInspiration for manual–contents: NFE methods about peaceful playing\, critical look on gamification of educational work\, tips and tricks for inclusive and sensitive games in educational work \nConcept and kick-off for research implantation period \nMethods \nWe’re going to use a broad variety of non-formal education methods\, such as world cafe\, snowball discussions\, re-\nsearch\, silent exhibition\, simulation games\, theatre\, visual harvesting\, arts\, energizers\, role games\, team building ac-\ntivities and more. As this training is about peaceful playing we will use many games and energizer methods in this training for critical reflection. \nParticipants Profile\nEveryone who comes to this seminar should… \n\nbe vaccinated against Covid 19 or recovered (obligation)\nideally be an active member and be involved in the process and decision structures of their sending organisation\nhave some experience in international group works as participant or better as trainer/facilitator or group\ncoordinator\nbe interested in learning more about the use of games in groups and to discuss this critically\nbe aware of power structures and be able to approach them both sensitively and critically\nbe committed to abstain from flying\, but travel to the event via overland route instead;\nbe committed to spreading their new skills and competences to their sending branches\, e.g. via a workshop\nor a camp coordinator training.\nallow time and ideas for both the seminar and the finalisation phase;\nideally be motivated to participate actively in the production of the outcomes and in the implementation\nperiod\nhave sufficient English language skills (spoken and written);\n\nPlease note that there will be opportunities to visit Sonthofen and it surroundings\, but that this is not a “getting to know the region” project. On some days the seminar also foresees evening sessions. \nLogistics\, financial conditions and sustainability \nSimple life: The seminar will take place in a seminar house with simple living conditions. You will sleep in a room shared with few other people. \nMoney\, money\, money: We can cover all essential costs of the program (including vegan food\, travel costs up to a maximum amount per distance (maximum travel reimbursement amounts: 10-99 km = 20 Euro\, 100-499 km = 180 Euro\, 500-1999 km = 275 Euro\, 2000-2999 km = 360 Euro)\, visa costs\, accommodation\, and seminar) through a European project grant by Erasmus+. Your sending organisation might ask for a small participation fee. The costs will be reimbursed to you after submission of a complete expenditure summary and original receipts after project completion. \nSustainable food: The food provided by the house will be vegan. This is not just a practical decision\, but also an ideological one: SCI believes in the values of sustainability and climate justice – and if we want to contribute to a more peaceful planet\, we need to give up on industrialized animal agriculture and its destructive effects on our planet. \nSustainable travels?: This is also why we ask you to come to this seminar through more sustainable means of transport rather than flying (e.g. by train or bus)\, if somehow possible. Sonthofen is easy to reach with (night) trains and busses via Munich or Ulm from many places. DESCRIPTION:International training\, 10-16 April 2022 in Rom (Italy)\nAbout the Project \nLet’s talk about gender! A few years ago\, research about gender-based discrimination within SCI\nvolunteering camps was published and it showed the many ways how gender oppression/\ndiscrimination/ violence/ etc. exist within our projects. In many projects\, we still face a sexist division of\nwork\, sexual harassment\, sexist and queerphobic jokes or sometimes also just a lack of awareness\naround gender and LGBTQIA-related issues. How do we react to this? How can we create safer spaces? \nWhat you can expect from this training: \n\nmore awareness around what gender-based discrimination and violence is\nqueerfeminist educational and conflict resolution tools to adress gender-based conflict (e.g. microaggressions\, sexism\, etc.)\nnon-formal education methods to address gender in volunteering and youth projects\nself-reflection about your own practice as a coordinator/organiser/activist\nsharing best practices with other coordinators\, organisers and activists\ngetting to know many great people from around Europe and Southwest Asia\n\nOutcome: In addition to the above\, in this training\, we want to create guidelines for camp coordinators\nto address gender-based discrimination. The guidelines will be published as an addition to the existing\nSCI toolkit around gender “Free to be you and me”. \nCOVID-19 during the training \nAt this point\, we assume that it will be possible to organize the training in person in Italy in April\, but we\nwill have to see how the situation around COVID-19 develops. We will ask all participants to be fully\nprotected from COVID-19 (e.g. vaccinated with booster shot\, recently recovered from COVID-19). We\nwill have a hygiene concept for the group during the training and will follow all regulations by the\nauthorities. \nParticipant’s profile \nThe project aims to gather 26 participants (1-2 per partner organization). The participants will be youth\nworkers\, trainers as well as staff\, activists\, camp coordinators and active volunteers from volunteering\norganizations. All participants selected for this project should meet the following criteria \n\nbe 18 years old or older\nbe able to work in English\nbe interested in the training topics and have a strong motivation to act as a multiplier\nable to attend for the full duration of the training\nIf somehow possible and feasible\, be committed to come to the training without flying\, and to\ntravel instead by overland route.\n\nWe explicitly encourage participants of all classes\, educational backgrounds\, genders\, sexual\norientations\, abilities and ethnic backgrounds to apply. SUMMARY:“Youth Has A Strategy”\, Seminar
DESCRIPTION:18-27 th March 2022\, Diyarbakir\, Turkey\n \n\nNowadays\, we are worried about COVID-19 and its effects such as economic crisis\, psychological damage\, youth unemployment\, questions and reconsideration about the solidarity between countries and the future of the EU etc. While some people believe this situation will be the end of the European Union\, countries will be more nationalist and close their borders\, people will be more radicalised; we -as partner organisations and youth workers/leaders- believe on the contrary. At least\, we believe that the goals of “Youth Has a Strategy” are more important nowadays and we would like to contribute in the solidarity among youth workers from different countries.\n\n \n\nDuring the seminar\, there will be several methods used when participants can experience being a part of the Strategy in order to foster their emotional and rational understanding concerning this multi problem situation. Especially role plays\, forum theatre\, board games will provide them an opportunity to try them out being in different roles of a youth worker who work with young people with fewer opportunities. Participants can try out different tools and methods in a safe environment. Some examples for methods we will use during the seminar: individual work\, pair work\, small mixed group work\, national group work\, role plays\, field visit\, collage\, symbolise\, making definitions\, express a link between theory and practice\, drawings\, creating a ‘dreamland’\, insolent meal method etc.\n\n \nDuring the seminar we will engage in following questions: \n \n\n 	How can youth workers\, leaders contribute actively in solidarity and how can we be ‘a big international team’? What is the background of the Strategy in general?\n 	What are the characteristics of the multi problem situation regarding being a youth leader to contribute to the goals of the Strategy?\n 	Which methods can we use to achieve the goals of the Strategy and make it easily understandable for young people?\n 	How transnational youth projects supported by Erasmus + programme can support young people to create a holistic approach to reach the goals of the Strategy?\n\n \n30 participants from Austria\, Portugal\, Poland\, Romania\, Spain\, Estonia\, Italy\, Turkey and Greece. DESCRIPTION:Seminar: Landing and Spreading\n6th to 13th March 2022\, Mutters near Innsbruck\, Austria\nCall for applications\nThe project\nInternational peace and volunteer work is rooted in face-to-face exchange of people from different regions and backgrounds. Regular trainings\, seminars and volunteer camps where youth workers and young people can exchange experiences and ideas\, form the basis of this. The need for personal exchange comes along with a greater need for travel and transportation. \nCurrently\, many of the travel distances are covered by airplane. This contributes massively to the climate crisis and to increasing social inequality. Besides\, the restrictions imposed by COVID19 have forced us to take a more urgent look at alternative forms of mobility. Among all the challenges\, this also offers an opportunity to reflect on lessons learned regarding mobility in international peace work during the pandemic. \nThe Project MOVE makes mobility a peace issue and considers the acute need to raise awareness and to promote\ncritical reflection of current mobility choices in international volunteer projects and peace activities. Its main objectives are: \n\nto enhance the knowledge\, skills and competences of youth workers on the main topics\,\nto equip them with tools to make their activities ecologically and socially more sustainable\, and\nto create ideas and follow-up plans for innovative climate-friendly projects.\n\nThe project consists of four parts. This call for applications comprises the last two parts (Activity 2 and follow up)\, the “Landing and Spreading” Seminar near Innsbruck 06.-13. March 2022\, and a Follow-up Period to finalise the project outputs and start implementing new project ideas. \nDuring the training\, participants from peace/volunteering organisations from 17 countries gathered in Nuremberg in\nSeptember 2021 to learn about the intersections of mobility\, climate justice and peace work. They created and shared tools and ideas for activism\, education and structural change regarding the topic. Between the training and the seminar\, the training participants are implementing workshop ideas ‘On the MOVE’. They gather content and feedback for a toolkit on sustainable mobility and localise the topics discussed at the training – including running local or online workshops on travel guidelines. \nNow we are looking for applications and participants for the second activity of the project\, the “Landing and Spreading” seminar near to Innsbruck. There\, we will discuss more topics connected to global sustainable mobility\, such as e.g. gender and mobility. Part of the seminar will be to discuss the outcomes of the ‘On the Move’ period and to gather more information for a toolkit on sustainable mobility for volunteering organisations. The toolkit will be developed at this seminar. The seminar also gives space to connect to other international organisations and get information about their ways of sustainable travel. These activities will be held in English language. \nThe Venue\nThe seminar will take place in the youth house “Jungscharhaus Mutters”: https://innsbruck.jungschar.at/jungschar\nhaus/. It is located near Innsbruck\, Austria\, well connected to public transport and close to the mountains. \nThe Team\nThe seminar will be facilitated by an experience team of trainers/facilitators of SCI Germany and SCI Austria. Simon*\, Jakob\, Noah Marschner\, Esther Wawerda and Sophia Schmid will be part of the facilitating team (for some days). \nAims\n*Understand the link between (global) mobility\, climate justice and international peace work\n*Empower and train active volunteers\, camp coordinators and seminar facilitators to advocate for sustainable means of transportation and implement local actions with their sending organisations\n*Enhance networking capabilities\, create & share tools and ideas for local activism and campaigning\n*Initiate structural change regarding mobility within SCI and partners\n*Create a toolkit about sustainable mobility and a draft for a sustainable international travel policy \nTopics\n*Local and global impacts of global mobility on resources\, climate change and social justice\n*Structures behind global mobility (acceleration\, economic growth\, global inequalities)\n*Economic and political approaches to sustainable global mobility and their critique\n*Peace work\, mobility and its climate impacts\n*Approaches to a more climate-friendly peace work\, lessons learnt from the COVID-19 pandemic\n*Ideas/inspiration for local workshops and new projects including Project Management\n*Travel Policies of different international organisations \nOutcome\n*Mobility Toolkit – contents: NFE methods about global mobility\, climate justice and peace\, background knowledge to develop guidelines for sustainable projects\, examples for sustainable approaches in peace and youth work\n*Draft for a sustainable international travel policy\n*Ideas and networks for new international cooperation in the field of sustainable global Mobility \nMethods\nWe’re going to use a broad variety of non-formal education methods\, such as world cafe\, snowball discussions\, re-\nsearch\, silent exhibition\, simulation games\, theatre\, visual harvesting\, arts\, energizers\, role games\, team building ac-\ntivities and more. There will also be project visits to local initiatives. \nFollow up (non-residential)\nParticipants implement their own projects and workshop about the projects topic. They will also finish their work on\nthe Toolkit and the Travel Policy draft. \nParticipants Profile\nEveryone who comes to this seminar should… \n\nbe vaccinated against Covid 19 or recovered (obligation)\nhave experience in international peace work\nideally be an active member and be involved in the process and decision structures of their sending organisation;\nallow time and ideas for both the seminar and the finalisation phase;\nideally be motivated to participate actively in the production of the outputs;\nbe committed to abstain from flying and travel to the events via overland route instead;\nbring ideas for own workshops;\nhave sufficient English language skills (spoken and written);\nbe committed to spreading their new skills and competences to their sending branches/organisation\, e.g. via a workshop or a camp coordinator training.\n\nParticipants who already participated in the MOVE training (09/2021 in Nürnberg) will be given priority\, but we are\nalso very much looking forward to meeting new people. \nPlease note that there will be opportunities to visit Innsbruck\, but that this is not a “getting to know the region” pro-\nject. On some days the seminar also foresees evening sessions. \nLogistics\, financial conditions and sustainability\nSimple life: The seminar will take place in a seminar house with simple living conditions. You will sleep in a room\nshared with few other people. \nMoney\, money\, money: We can cover all essential costs of the program (including vegan food\, travel costs up to a maximum amount per distance (maximum travel reimbursement amounts: 10-99 km = 20 Euro\, 100-499 km = 180 Euro\, 500-1999 km = 275 Euro\, 2000-2999 km = 360 Euro)\, visa costs\, accommodation and seminar) through a European project grant by Erasmus+. Your sending organisation might ask for a small participation fee. The costs will be reimbursed to you after submission of a complete expenditure summary and original receipts after project completion. \nSustainable food: The food we provide will be vegan. This is not just a practical decision\, but also an ideological one: SCI believes in the values of sustainability and climate justice – and if we want to contribute to a more peaceful planet\, we need to give up on industrialized animal agriculture and its destructive effects on our planet. We will also take care of the food ourselves so that’s a good opportunity to share food from your region \nSustainable travels?: This is also why we ask you to come to this seminar through more sustainable means of transport rather than flying (e.g. by train or bus)\, if somehow possible. DESCRIPTION:Join us on Gather Town and discover the world of volunteering!\nIt’s time to celebrate the International Volunteer Day!\nWe are very happy to invite you to the first SCI International Volunteering Fair on December 5th! This online fair will not only round up our 100th anniversary celebration but also give you a glimpse of the work done by SCI everyday. The goal of this event is for future volunteers and current volunteers to meet\, share information\, exchange knowledge and experiences. It’s also a chance for you to discover the global impact of SCI’s activities and learn how you can get involved in volunteering and what opportunities are available. \nHow can you join the fair?\nThe fair will be held on the platform Gather Town. It is a web-conferencing platform\, where little avatars (characters) walk around a virtual world\, created specially for our event. You will create an avatar that will represent you in our digital world and you will discover public and private rooms\, booths\, workshops spaces\, lounge spaces as well as movie rooms with digital content from our branches and partners all over the world. You will have the opportunity to speak privately with interesting people as well as listen to prepared presentations\, participate in many activities and interact with objects filled with surprise contents. There will be much to learn and discover!  \nThe fair will last the whole Sunday so you will be able to join whenever you feel like it throughout the day. SUMMARY:Seminar "Be your country?!" from 3 to 10 December in Austria [Call for participants]
DESCRIPTION:Be your country?! \n\n\n \nDeconstructing culture in youth work and non-formal education \n\n\n \nInternational seminar\, 3-9 December 2021  \n\n\n \nONLINE \n\n\n \nBackground of the seminar \n\n\n \nIn youth and volunteering projects\, we gather international groups of young people to foster mutual understanding and a culture of peace. Intercultural learning is our specialty! \n\n\n \nBut we have the feeling that sometimes our understanding of culture is quite limited\, static and oldfashioned:  By “culture” and “cultural exchange” we often mean exchange of people from different nationalities – and we emphasize this by making jokes about national identities\, asking participants to bring food from “their country”\, talk about “their country”\, etc. We usually don’t reflect that participants might have diverse approaches to how they feel about “their country”. We often lack an understanding for cultural nuances that go beyond nation states (class\, race\, gender\, age\, urban/rural\, sexual orientation\, subcultures\, etc.). \n\n\n \nWith this seminar\, we want to provide a space for youth workers and staff from volunteering organisations around Europe to critically reflect about their own practices of culturalization in non-formal education programs\, energizers\, support and training structures and free time activities. We will guide the seminar using techniques and approaches from antidiscrimination\, antiracism and critical whiteness. \n\n\n \nSome of the questions and topics we would like to explore include: \n\n\n \n\n\nWhat do we personally and our organisations mean when we say „culture“? What effect does this understanding of culture have on our participants? \n\n\nWhat is the role of national cultures in international youth projects – and how does this relate to nationalism\, nationbuilding\, pan-Europeanism and internationalism? \n\n\nHow can we deconstruct and play with the definition of „culture“ that our participants bring with them to our youth projects? \n\n\nWhat non-formal education methods can we share or create that have critical or constructive approaches to culture? What can be progressive alternatives to an „international evening“ and to talking about “cultural shocks” solely from a national perspective? \n\n\nHow does the setup of Erasmus+ programs reinforce certain notions of culture in our projects? \n\n\nHow can we challenge existing cultures within our projects and our societies (e.g. patriarchy\, heteronormativity\, white supremacy\, militarism) in order to create a culture of peace? \n\n\n\n\n \nA manual will be the outcome \n\n\n \nThe results of the seminar will be critical guidelines for youth and volunteering organisations as well as a collection of methods that stimulate critical or altenative views on „culture“. These results will be collected in a manual co-created by the participants. \n\n\n \nCOVID-19 \n\n\n \n This seminar was supposed to take place physically in Austria\, but due to a COVID-19 lockdown in Austria we are moving it online. The seminar will consist of daily 3 hours video calls from 13:30-17:00 CET (with 30 min break inbetween). There will be individual assignments to do between the sessions\, which you can schedule individually. The two facilitators\, Simon* and Thomas\, will make sure to make the seminar exciting\, fun and interactive despite it being online. \n\n\n \nWhat you need \n\n\n \n\n\nA device with webcam and microphone (best is a laptop or computer)\, maybe a headset \n\n\na good internet connection that works with video calls (possibly we could support you with getting a better connection for the duration of the project) \n\n\ninstalled and newly updated Zoom application on your device \n\n\nMotivation: It is crucial for us that you are motivated to participate throughout the whole project\, that you are not missing on any day of the project. \n\n\n\n\n \nParticipant’s profile \n\n\n \nThe project aims to gather 30 participants  (up to 2 per partner organisation). The participants will be youth workers\, trainers as well as staff\, activists\, camp coordinators and active volunteers from volunteerig organisations. All participants selected for this project should meet the following criteria \n\n\n \n\n\nbe 18 years old or older \n\n\nbe able to work in English \n\n\nbe interested in the seminar topics and have a strong motivation to act as a multiplier \n\n\nAble to attend for the full duration of the seminar \n\n\n\n\n \nWe explicitly encourage participants of all classes\, educational backgrounds\, genders\, sexual  orientations\, abilities and ethnic backgrounds to apply. \n\n\n \nHow to apply? \n\n\n \nWe are looking for two participants with the residence in Austria. SUMMARY:Training Course "Youth Without Borders" [21-29 November\, Diyarbakir\, Turkey]
DESCRIPTION:Training activity 1: 21-29 November 2021\, Diyarbakir\, Turkey \n\n\n\nThe training “Youth Without Borders” aims to train youth workers\, youth leaders and activists to refelct upon positive (brain drain) and negative sides of migration and gain knowledge on how to deal with challenges resulting from migration as well as how to use opportunities in the society where they currently live. By encouraging youth workers to facilitate their organizations and local communities to understand the issues surrounding migration\, this project hopes to create a wave of collaborations between and among partner organizations as well as with other civil society players\, local authorities\, job market stakeholders and other supportive mechanisms in their local communities to the benefit of better inclusion/integration mechanisms across Europe. \n\n\n\nThe training consists of two parts. This call for applications comprises the first training course which will be implemented in Diyarbakir\, Turkey\, from 21 until 29 of November 2021! The second training course will take place in Vienna\, Austria\, from 1st until 8th of May 2022. The training will gather 25 participants from Austria\, Portugal\, Greece\, Italy and Spain and Turkey. \n  \n\n\n\nDuring the Tranings we will engage in following topics: \n  \n\n\n\n\n\nDifferent political approaches towards refugees and immigrants in EU countires \n\n\nHow to improve intercultural competences of youth workers in order to support young migrants and refugees to find their way into the local communities; \n\n\nHow to engage people in local communities to understand the reasons why someone has to become asylum seeker or immigrant – fight against xenophobia\, intolerance\, fear from unknown; \n\n\nHow can we support refugees and migrants through youth work activities and integrate them successfully into the new local communities culturally\, economically\, socially\, etc. \n\n\n\n\n \nMethods \n  \n\n\n \nDuring both training courses we’re going to use a broad variety of non-formal education methods\, such as theatrical performances\, simulation games and various team building games and especially technological games such as kahoot\, flipped classroom\, Word Cloud Generator\, QR Codes etc. We will focus on group work and discussions and will have various outdoor activities\, quizzes\, debates and field visits. \n  \n\n\n\nFinancial Conditions \n  \n\n\n\nThis Project is funded by the Erasmus+. That means that the participation is free of charge! Travel expenses will be reimbursed: We cover your travel cost according to Erasmus+ distance calculator rules and the maximum for each participant that can be reimbursed is the depending of the country of departure as follow: Greece: maximum 275 € Austria and Italy: maximum 360 € Spain: maximum 530 € Portugal: maximum 820 € Travel expenses will be paid according to your travel documents/bills but cannot be paid more than maximum travel costs. \n  \n Accommodation & Food \n  \n\n\n\nAll participants will stay in the guest house of Youth and Change Association in the city-centre of Diyarbakir. SUMMARY:Seminar "COVID-19 Lesson learned" from 21 to 27 November 2021 in Madrid (Spain)
DESCRIPTION:COVID 19-lessons learned\nInternational Youth work after the pandemic\nInternational seminar\, 21-27 November 2021 in Madrid (Spain)\nAbout the Project\nService Civil International and the partners of the project “COVID-19 – Lessons learned” are organizations\nthat make international exchanges of volunteers and young people one of their main methods. In doing so\, we aim to create intercultural connections\, international solidarity and a culture of peace and non-violence. The COVID-19 pandemic is posing unprecedented challenges for the movement. Neither travel nor physical meetings were possible. And the world is in a health crisis that poses enormous economic\, political and social challenges to which the international youth and volunteer movement must actively respond. \nYoung people with fewer opportunities are particularly affected by this crisis: young people with chronic illnesses who are directly affected by the health risk\, many young people losing their jobs or unable to find one\, with LGBT+ young people isolated at home with families who do not accept their identities\, young people with dysfunctional families locked at home. \nAt the same time\, reactions to the crisis\, especially within the EU\, have been very national and local\, with borders that have been open for decades closed and with international volunteering and youth exchanges being literally impossible in the ways we have done so far. As we believe in our goals and approaches\, we are working overtime to find new solutions\, such as international online volunteering\, local volunteer actions\, etc. \nWe need spaces to exchange these solutions\, to exchange ideas\, and to find new ways of doing it. We need spaces to exchange these solutions\, to increase their quantity and quality. Therefore\, SCI Madrid and SCI Germany have joined forces and are inviting you to join our seminar: COVID 19 – lessons learned. We hope that\, after almost a year of experiences and adaptations\, we will be able to exchange experiences\, ideas and good practices\, learning from each other and creating new common strategies. \nOur objective\n• To gather lessons learned and best practices on how to translate our work and goals to a situation where physical distance is necessary and travel is impossible.\n• To create new and creative ways of international volunteering and youth work.\n• Evaluate currently developed approaches\, such as digital volunteer camps\n• To better understand how to use non-formal education in a digital environment\n• Learn from others what local emergency volunteering initiatives have been created\n• Analyse how the crisis influences long-term volunteering projects abroad\n• Understand the social consequences of the closing of borders and how we as youth and volunteer organisations can contribute to international solidarity in this context.\n• Analyse how we can contribute to the fight against new conspiracy theories and misinformation spread on social media among young people\n• Assess how the crisis is connected to issues we have been working on for decades such as exclusion\, racism\, sexism\, ecology and climate\, etc.\n• Networking \nOutcome\nThe results of the seminar will be a manual for youth and volunteering organisations with guidelines on risk management\, volunteer management during crises situations\, best practices and digital facilitation tips. \nCOVID-19 during the Seminar\nAt this point\, we assume that it will be possible to organize the seminar in-person in Spain in November. We will ask all participants to be vaccinated\, recovered and/or tested (depending on the rules in Spain at that point). We will have a hygiene concept for the group during the seminar and will follow all regulations by the authorities. Should there be another lockdown\, we will consider to do the seminar online on the same dates. \nParticipant’s profile\nThe project aims to gather 20 participants (up to 2 per partner organization). The participants will be youth workers\, trainers as well as staff\, activists\, camp coordinators and active volunteers from volunteering organizations. All participants selected for this project should meet the following criteria: \n• be 18 years old or older\n• be able to work in English\n• be interested in the seminar topics and have a strong motivation to act as a multiplier\n• Able to attend for the full duration of the seminar• If somehow possible and feasible\, be committed to come to the seminar without flying\, and to travel instead by overland route. \nWe explicitly encourage participants of all classes\, educational backgrounds\, genders\, sexual orientations\, abilities and ethnic backgrounds to apply. \nLogistics\, financial conditions and sustainability \nSimple life: The seminar will take place in a seminar house with simple living conditions. You will sleep in a room shared with few other people. \nMoney\, money\, money: We can cover all essential costs of the program (including food\, travel costs up to a maximum amount per country\, visa costs\, accommodation and seminar) through a European project grant by Erasmus+. Your sending organisation might ask for a small participation fee. \nSustainable food: In the application form you can tell us if you have any allergies or intolerances. The same applies if you are vegan or vegetarian. We will adapt the food to your needs. \nSustainable travels?: This is also why we ask you to come to this seminar through more sustainable means of transport rather than flying (e.g. by train or bus)\, if somehow possible.
