DESCRIPTION:Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The UN General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace\, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire. \nAs a peace organisation that is dedicated to promoting a culture of peace for SCI the International Peace Day is of speacial importance! \nThis year we want to take the International Day of Peace as an occasion to show our governments that we want them to sign and ratify the UN Treaty for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons now! There is a momentum around this topic at the moment and any activism and public attention supporting this treaty can help to further the cause. Most Western countries\, especially NATO countries and allies\, haven’t signed this treaty (full list here: https://www.icanw.org/signature_and_ratification_status). \n \n\nWhat can you do? \n\n\nCreate a photo or video with a message to your government and post it on social media with the hashtag #nuclearban\nPost information about nuclear weapons on your social media! SUMMARY:Workcamp: Recovery of ancient roads of the Valley of Siarb!
DESCRIPTION:This workcamp will consist in the recovery of ancient roads and the discovery of the Valley of Siarb. From the 20th of September to the 4th of October.\n  \nDescription: Vall de Siarb is a very unique and interesting valley in the heart of the Pyrenees. The purpose of this workcamp is to recover and maintain the ancient paths of the valley as they are part of the history and the natural beauty of the place. These paths were used during many centuries until the 1960s-70s. They represent a huge heritage\, which is why we want to keep them in the valley as an open-air museum. During the workcamp\, participants will discover the surroundings of the Valley of Siarb\, they will get to know the geographical features of the Parc de l’Alt Pirineu and will learn more about the region of Pallars Sobirà and its idiosyncrasies. \nType of Work: There will be all kinds of tasks regarding the recovering and improving of old paths: clearing paths\, rebuilding dry stone walls\, putting stones aside\, improving trail signs by painting them and redoing pavement stretches of trails. We will spend all the working hours (4 hours) in the nature\, surrounded by forests\, fields\, etc. The work is very manual and physical. \nAccommodation: Accommodation will be in tents\, following the health protocols of COVID-19. SUMMARY:Visual Storytelling from A to Z
DESCRIPTION:About the project \nThe project “Visual storytelling from A to Z” aims at bringing self-awareness at the participants\, on their own identity and perception as human beings\, not as objects of stereotypes based on their gender. This issue is very common in young people\, raised in environments filled with thoughts like masculinity is for boys and emotions are for girls. \nThe youth needs to raise their gender literacy to achieve better self-understanding and confidence. Now in the era of technology\, young people spend more time online\, where many issues are projected in the web showing the need of raising the media literacy in young people. The world of media and social networks is becoming more and more visual\, so the need to distinguish between the good and bad examples of media provocations is pretty urgent too. \nBy this project we are willing to promote gender diversity and by transferring understanding on common fundamental values of our society to reach young people and to contribute to the prevention of violent radicalization based on gender. \nThe program of the training activity is organized in building up thematic modules to provide new information\, enhance knowledge and develop the skills of participants\, and enable participants to share in a safe and creative environment. The program also includes meetings with experts on visual arts as well as visiting several associations who will share their own practises and who are experts in the field of gender equality and will further contribute to the learning and development process. \nThe program of the training is organized in several modules like “raising gender literacy”\, “raising visual arts skills” or “visual stories become real” where the participants will be provided with new information to enhance their knowledge and develop their skills. We will work on creating a safe space where everyone feels comfortable sharing personal experiences and situations as well as feel free to unleash their creativity. The program also foresees the visit of professionals of visual arts to the centre where the training will take place in addition to meet workers from different associations in Sofia working on practices related to gender equality. \nWe will integrate in the working methods of this training those of experiencial learning and non-formal and informal learning to facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and skills in a series of activities meant to be enriching and entertaining where participants will feel prone to contribute\, share ideas\, discuss\, and have fun altogether. We have devised this training for participants regardless of their level of expertise on the Gender topic to generate an space of exchange among participants that will lead to peer-to-peer learning. Our main objective is to get them involved to continue spreading the word in their local communities about gender equality. \n\nInteractive presentations\, working in small groups\, debates\, ice-breaking games\, energizers\, sharing experiences\, group and self reflections\, and other methods will be used to encourage the inclusion of all participants in the activities. \nThe participants we aim to reach with the project are young people\, activists and youth workers who want to learn more about visual arts\, how to use creative techniques on raising awareness on gender related topics and how to adapt them for an everyday work within their local realities. SUMMARY:Workcamp: Open House (Thuringia)
DESCRIPTION:Description: This year Open Houses is supporting the revival of the anniversary campaign “100 years of workcamps” of 2020\, which due to the COVID-19 emergency had to be postponed towards 2021. For this reason\, Castle Lohra will be hosting a workcamp which will be representative of the volunteering work camp culture in Germany. In parallel to this workcamp\, Lohra Castle will also be hosting a seminar with the presence of former camp leaders and participants representing other German youth organisations\, where they will discuss the future of workcamps from the perspective of today’s young volunteers. The participants of this workcamp will be providing support for this seminar while partaking in the activities organised jointly with the seminar participants. \nType of Work: Support of preparation and organisation of a celebration event: 101 years of international workcamps: Peace and solidarity for the future. The volunteers will take care of the surrounding area and will carry out small renovation works. To make the work in the Building Weeks as productive as possible\, it would be welcome if the volunteers would already have some technical skills or experience in working on a construction site. Although such previous experience would be and advantage thus enabling the volunteers to share their skills and experiences it is not a mandatory condition for the participation at Building Weeks. \nStudy Theme: Open Houses – not empty buildings\, but places with visible and invisible traces of history\, places which have grown and decayed over the centuries\, places which were shaped by those people who lived there long ago as well those who left only yesterday – places which will be shaped by those who live there or who come as a guest. Open Houses – rooms which want to be filled with dreams and ideas\, with meetings and exchange\, by people of different backgrounds\, different cultures\, generations\, ideas\, and visions. Participants will get a chance to learn more about the volunteering movement. \nAccommodation: Shared rooms in 3 guest houses\, warm shower (limited hot water)\, 1 camp kitchen (cold water)\, coal-burning stoves. \nLanguage: In general\, the language spoken in the camps is English. But in all camps\, there is also the possibility to practice German with other volunteers\, camp leaders and the local people. \nRequirements: Interest in history in future of international Workcamps and volunteer movement

SUMMARY:Ready to Take Off – Training zur nachhaltiger globaler Mobilität
DESCRIPTION:M.O.V.E. Activity 1\, 12.-19. September 2021\, Nuremberg\, Germany\n\nThe Project\n \n\nInternational peace and volunteer work is rooted in face-to-face exchange of people from different regions and backgrounds. Regular trainings\, seminars and volunteer camps\, where youth workers and young people can exchange experiences and ideas\, form the basis of this. The need for personal exchange comes along with a greater need for travel and transportation.\n\n \n\nCurrently\, many of the travel distances are covered by air plane. This contributes massively to the climate crisis and to increasing social inequality. Besides\, the restrictions imposed by COVID19 have forced us to take a more urgent look at alternative forms of mobility. Among all the challenges\, this also offers an opportunity to reflect on lessons learned regarding mobility in international peace work during the pandemic.\n\n \n\nProject M.O.V.E. makes mobility a peace issue and considers the acute need to raise awareness and to promote critical reflection of current mobility choices in international volunteer projects and peace activities. Its main objectives are\n\n \n\n 	to enhance the knowledge\, skills and competences of youth workers on the main topics\,\n 	to equip them with tools to make their activities ecologically and socially more sustainable\, and\n 	to create ideas and follow-up plans for innovative climate-friendly projects.\n\n \n\nThe project consists of four parts. This call for applications comprises the first two parts (Activity 1)\, the “Ready to Take Off” Training on Sustainable Global Mobility in Nuremberg from 12.-19. September 2021\, and the “On the MOVE” Implementation Period until February/March 2022.\n\n \n\nDuring the training\, participants from peace/volunteering organisations from 17 countries will get together to learn about the intersection of mobility\, climate justice and peace work\, and to create\, share and spread tools and ideas for activism\, education and structural change regarding the topic.\n\n \n\nAfter the training\, from September/October 2021 till February/March 2022\, participants implement workshop ideas ‘On the MOVE’. They gather content and feedback for a toolkit on sustainable mobility and localise the topics discussed at the seminar – including running local or online workshops on travel guidelines. This process will be guided by the team of trainers.\n\n \n\nActivity 2 of the project comprises the “Landing and Spreading” Seminar\, which will take place in February/March 2022 in Vienna/Austria\, and a Follow-up Period to finalise the project outputs and start implementing new project ideas. There will be a separate registration for Activity 2. Participants of Activity 1 will be accepted for the seminar with priority.\n\n \n\nAll activities will be held in English language.\n\n \nThe Venue\n \n\nThe training will take place in the youth house “Otto-Felix-Kanitz-Haus” in Nuremberg\, Germany\, well connected to public transport and close to a river.\n\n \nAims\n \n\n 	Understand the link between (global) mobility\, climate justice and international peace work\n 	Empower and train active volunteers\, camp coordinators and seminar facilitators to advocate for sustainable means of transportation and implement local actions with their sending organisation\n 	Enhance networking capabilities\, create and share tools and ideas for local activism and campaigning\n 	Initiate structural change regarding mobility within SCI and partners\n\n \nTopics\n \n\n 	Local and global impacts of global mobility on resources\, climate change and social justice\n 	Structures behind global mobility (acceleration\, economic growth\, global inequalities)\n 	Economic and political approaches to a sustainable global mobility and their critique\n 	Personal involvement in global mobility\n 	Peace work\, mobility and its climate impacts\n 	Approaches to a more climate-friendly peace work\, lessons learnt from the COVID-19 pandemic\n 	Ideas/inspirations for local workshops\n\n \nOutcomes\n \n\n 	Inspiration for Mobility Toolkit – contents: NFE methods about global mobility\, climate justice and peace\, background knowledge to develop guidelines for sustainable projects\, examples for sustainable approaches in peace and youth work\n 	Concept and Kick-off for research and On the MOVE Implementation Phase.\n\n \nMethods\n \n\nWe’re going to use a broad variety of non-formal education methods\, such as world cafe\, snowball discussions\, research\, silent exhibition\, simulation games\, theatre\, visual harvesting\, arts\, energisers\, role games\, teambuilding games and more. There will also be projects visits to local initiatives.\n\n \nParticipants’ Profile\n \n\nEveryone who comes to this seminar should…\n\n \n\n 	ideally be an active member and be involved in the process and decision structures of their sending organisation;\n 	have experience in international peace work;\n 	allow time and ideas for both the training and the implementation phase;\n 	ideally be willing to attend also  (not mandatory\, but recommended) and participate actively in the production of the outputs;\n 	be committed to abstain from flying and travel to the events via overland route instead;\n 	bring ideas for workshops;\n 	have sufficient English language skills (spoken and written);\n 	be committed to spreading their new skills and competences to their sending branches/organisation\, e.g. via a workshop or a camp coordinator training.\n\n \n\nPlease note that there will be opportunities to visit Nuremberg\, but that this is not a “getting to know the city” project. On some days the seminar also foresees evening sessions.\n\n \nFinancial Conditions of Participation\n \n\n 	Essential costs of the programme (including vegan food\, accommodation\, local transportation and training) will be covered by SCI-D. The project is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.\n 	Reimbursement of international travel costs will be 100% up to the maximum amounts indicated in the rules of the Erasmus+ programme after the receipt of original documents (maximum travel reimbursement amounts: 10-99 km = 20 Euro\, 100-499 km = 180 Euro\, 500-1999 km = 275 Euro\, 2000-2999 km = 360 Euro).\n 	Placement fees are charged according to the regulations of national sending organisation.\n\n \nCovid19 Regulation\n \n\nPlease be advised that due to the pandemic and related measures\, there may be changes. We ask you not to book your trip before we have informed you that the training will take place at the planned location. We will let you know about this about four weeks before the training starts. For the protection of all participants on site\, we will ask you to bring your own supply of FFP2 masks and a certificate of a negative Covid19 rapid test result no older than 48 hours (no exceptions). If the current situation in September forces us to do so\, we will postpone this training and will inform you immediately. DESCRIPTION:11. – 26. September 2021\nWe are looking for volunteers to join the ESC Volunteering Team Camp this summer\, in the European Green Belt! \nThe European Green Belt is a valuable ecological network along the former Iron curtain which divided Europe into east and west for nearly 40 years. The European Green Belt forms the backbone of Pan-European ecological network and provides a significant contribution to European “Green Infrastructure”. The Greenbelt-Initiative is an example of cross border cooperation and nature conservation. European Green Belt is a space for encounters between people and cultures and opportunities for a joint sustainable approach to natural and cultural heritage. \nWith this project in the Green Belt at the Austrian-Czech border\, the Austrian League for Nature Conservation – Lower Austria and SCI Austria want to link international cooperation and nature conservation. Through the involvement of the communities in the border area and the close cooperation between the local people and international volunteers in the context of the Greenbelt Camp\, we hope to bring peace\, cooperation and unification ideas of the European Green Belt to life. \nIn order to preserve the diverse natural and cultural landscape along the European Green Belt\, nature conservation-oriented management – in particular of open land biotope types such as (semi) dry grassland and rock dry grassland – is essential. This usually takes the form of manual maintenance of the valuable and species-rich biotopes and can hardly be managed today without the help of volunteers. \nYoung people are invited to work together to help maintain valuable biotopes on the Green Belt and are given the opportunity to learn about the history of this landscape. \nWhat will you do?\nIn this Workcamp\, you will take concrete action to maintain biodiversity in a part of the European Green Belt zone along the border between Austria and Czech Republic and contribute to preservation of endangered species in this area. Almost every day\, we will work together for 5-6 hours in the morning. We will mow steep meadows and remove bushes from dry rocky grasslands that are threatened to be over grown by bushes and trees. But don’t worry\, we will have enough free days in between to rest and get to know each other and the region. \nStudy part!\nApart from contributing to protection of endangered species by physical work you will also learn about them as well as about other plants and animals in the area. We will reflect upon ecological problems and initiatives that one can take in order to support environmental protection and promote a sustainable green Europe. \nLeisure time!\nThe beautiful region of Lower Austria offers a lot of possibilities for free-time activities. You can learn something about wine-production\, we will visit the castle of Falkenstein\, make a trip to Mikulov. There is also a little pond near our accommodation\, where you can swim during your free time. SUMMARY:Workcamp: Fostering Biodiversity in a Community Garden (Lake Constance)
DESCRIPTION:Description: Help to protect the biodiversity in a community garden and learn to reconnect with nature. The Verbindungskultur e.V. is a place to develop learning experiences which foster a profound and authentic connection to nature\, where sustainable ways of life are explored and practiced\, and which promote peaceful and creative ways of being together – to create social change for the benefit of all beings. With this work camp\, the biodiversity in the community garden at the place of the association “Verbindungskultur e.V.” close to Lake Constance is now to be specifically promoted. To this end\, we would like to enrich the existing permaculture garden with additional habitats for rare and/or specially adapted animal and plant species. \nType of Work: With our work\, we will focus on species protection and the construction of so-called “nature modules”\, i.e. small microhabitats that can increase and stabilize the biodiversity of a site\, in this case of the “home” our association. These nature modules include for example: dry stone walls\, stone piles\, stone pyramids\, dead wood piles\, wood cellars\, sandariums\, small water puddles\, wildflowers\, and many more. These increasingly rare habitats attract endangered species that can find a habitat here again. Furthermore\, we want to improve the infrastructure of our seminar site\, e.g. by building stairs and paths\, possibly also handicapped access. There is an outdoor kitchen\, compost toilets\, solar shower\, and a cozy heated yurt as a community space (built by previous SCI volunteers). \nWe will cook together as a group – in our kitchen tent and sometimes\, if you are interested\, on the campfire. DESCRIPTION:Description: Our planet is being destroyed and we need to stand up against this! We need to become active on different levels\, be it in the streets or in online spaces. In this online camp\, which is part of the bigger “Wikipedia for Peace” project and cooperation between SCI and Wikimedia Switzerland\, you will get to know Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects. You will also learn about climate justice and get inspired to become a climate activist! \nType of Work: Doing research for Wikipedia articles about climate justice and climate activists\, translating articles\, improving existing articles in your native language and writing new articles. The project organizers will prepare a list of articles around people and topics related to the camp topic. It is crucial that you are interested in climate justice\, that you like writing and that you like to do research on your own or in small groups. You don’t have to have knowledge on Wikipedia already. \nStudy Theme: There will be a big emphasis on studying in this workcamp. We will learn how to write good Wikipedia articles and take pictures for Wikimedia projects. We will learn about the principles behind Wikimedia projects as well as free licences/open content philosophy in general. We will learn about climate justice and climate activism. We will get to know more about amazing people that are fighting against climate change – through our own research\, through exchange with other participants and through external inputs. \nAccommodation: We will intentionally live a simple and sustainable lifestyle during the workcamp. The old art-nouveau villa houses up to 16 people and provides workshop rooms\, the kitchen and social living space. There are dormitory rooms with beds\, bed sheets\, blankets and pillows. We are in charge of cooking and cleaning. Meals will be vegan – please bring own fun recipes that we can cook! A washing machine is available. Please be aware that the house is rather cold and there is a dog and a cat. If you like camping\, you can also bring your own tent and set it up outside. \nLanguage: We will speak English in the group. You can write Wikipedia articles in any language you want. We encourage you to write in your native language. The people of the hosting community speak German\, French and of course English. The local languages are French and Swiss German. \nRequirements: Please write a motivation letter to specify your interest in this work and your plan for follow up work after the camp. SUMMARY:CHAPTER: Challenging Propaganda Through Remembrance. "Remembrance Week in Greece"
DESCRIPTION:Description: The Remembrance Week in Greece is part of a wider list of activities within the frame of the European Project “Chapter: Challenging Propaganda Through Remembrance”. The project gathers 25 representatives of organizations from 9 countries – Austria\, France\, Germany\, Greece\, Hungary\, Italy\, Poland\, Catalunya and Bulgaria. Since 2014 Europe is facing the worst humanitarian crisis Since World War II. The majority of them fleeing from Syria and Libya\, causing a crisis in humanitarian assistance by the Greek state and greater EU\, due to years of economic and political turmoil. An in-depth analysis shows that current propaganda roots lay in pre-WWII propaganda and throughout\, by totalitarian movements and regimes before the outbreak of the war\, such as the Ioannis Metaxas regime in Greece. \nType of Work: Participants\, supported and guided by the Remembrance Messengers\, will implement different activities aimed at going in depth into the following key words/topics: Remembrance\, Fear\, Normalization\, Propaganda and media\, Nationalism\, Hatred of the enemy\, Grassroots media\, Pacifism. A Set of Infographics will be created on the basis of the research participants will realize during the activity\, focused on the following specific topics: History\, Hate crimes\, Fear\, Propaganda\, Gender\, Freedom of speech\, Nationalism\, Normalization\, Social Frustration. \nStudy Theme: The research part will be focused on propaganda during the WWI and pre WWII\, Fear and normalization\, connecting the features characterizing the public discourse before the 2 wars to the present day political movements of the far right in each project country. This will be done by comparing the results of researches implemented by each participant before getting to the Remembrance Week and by a series of other activities like: visits to Resistance museums\, archives\, significant historical places\, meetings with experts\, discussions among participants. \nAccommodation: The volunteers from outside of Greece will be accommodated in Central Athens. Food will be provided. DESCRIPTION:Youth for Nature- Donau-Auen meets Thayatal National Park\n22.08.-04.09.2021\nThe local partners\, National Parks Thayatal and Donau-Auen oversee the protection and ecological development of their respective regions\, with their particular biodiversity. Some areas in Thayatal and Donau-Auen need ongoing management to form sustainable habitats for rare species. Meadows and diverse dry grassland areas\, need to be taken care of to preserve them and their ecosystem functions. The management of national parks lays great emphasis on environmental education and visitor management. \nWe will remove invasive plants to prevent irreversible anthropogenic effects on the ecosystem. Secondly\, we will mow dry grassland areas and selectively remove bushes and small trees to prevent the forest from overgrowing these species-rich open habitats. SUMMARY:Workcamp: That never Happens\, what Happened at that Time (Buchholz near Hamburg)
DESCRIPTION:Description: In 1945 the recreation centre “Heideruh” was built by antifascists to support the survivors of the Nazi regime. Relatives\, survivors\, and friends built a place of refuge amidst woodland where they could regain strength to continue their fight for a better world. Until today\, Heideruh is a recreation area for anti-fascists. Very often like-minded people from different generations meet up there. Since 2013 nine asylum seekers from North Sudan and Arabic countries are accommodated and supported in Heideruh. Now the focus ist to prepare for a time without contemporary witnesses. The camp includes a big study part. In approx. 50 % of the time will deal with the topics antifascism and rememberance. \nType of Work: (5 days): Maintenance\, repair\, and extension of the “barefoot walking path” and the “all generations” playground\, the focal points are on working with wood\, you learn different techniques and also how to use several machines. Everybody is welcome to try it out! \nStudy Theme: (7 Tage): Documentation of the work and camp\, preparation of a public commemoration ceremony\, meeting witnesses/ survivors and guests\, visiting the memorial of the former concentration camp Hamburg-Neuengamme. The study part will partly be drawn up by the Auschwitz committee. Main focus will be fascism and rememberance. \nAccommodation: Accommodation in double bedrooms\, on some days\, when there will be many guests at Heideruh\, it might be possible that some volunteers will have to move to tents\, which will be provided by the project\, as well as sleeping bags and insulating mattresses. Who wants to sleep alone can also sleep in a tent. There is a seminar room. Heideruh has a cantine\, you will partly eat in the cantine. Vegetarian and vegan is possible in the cantine and some help in the kitchen might be required. Breakfast you will prepare together. \nLanguage: Good knowledge of English and/ or German would be helpful. \nRequirements: Being interested in anti-fascism and remembrancet-topics\, showing consideration for elderly\, being interested in manageable building projects and thoughts.

DESCRIPTION:Since 2014 Europe is facing the worst humanitarian crisis of refugees since World War II (WWII)\, the majority of them fleeing from Syria and Libya\, while the economic crisis has been causing cuts to social inclusion\, education and healthcare programmes. Make matters worse\, populist groups’ media depicts third-country nationals as exploiters of the welfare system while criminalizing civil society organizations in solidarity\, thus fueling social tensions into organized violence against people and institutions. An in-depth analysis shows that current propaganda roots in methodologies and tools developed under totalitarian regimes. Nazism and Fascism emphasized those features characterizing the public discourse during World War I and its aftermath such as nationalism\, hatred of the enemy and dehumanization: all of that contributed to lay the groundwork for WWII. \nIn this sense the project “CHAPTER. Challenging propaganda through remembrance” aims to cast a light on propaganda before and during WWII\, focusing on its role to enforce the concept of “enemy” – from national and ethnic groups to political opponents and social groups. Participants\, chosen among people who aren’t active citizens yet\, will act as Remembrance messengers in order to relate past events to current trends. SUMMARY:CHAPTER: Anti-fascism on the Spotlight
DESCRIPTION:Online Training Course\nWe would like to invite you to participate in the Online Training Course “CHAPTER: Anti-fascism on the Spotlight” which will gather 25 representatives of organisations from 9 countries – Austria\, France\, Germany\, Greece\, Hungary\, Italy\, Poland\, Spain and Bulgaria. Participants from other EU program countries are also welcome to apply.  The training is designed for active volunteers who are eager to learn more on the topic of anti-fascism and later apply their knowledge in three types of project activities: Remembrance weeks\, a Research and a Campaign. \nThe training aims to build and train a group of experienced multipliers (remembrance messengers) and remembrance week coordinators\, set up a research on the topic and define contents of the Remembrance weeks within the project. \nThe training is designed to prepare the future Remembrance messengers and Remembrance Weeks’ coordinators\, providing them with practical and theoretical knowledge on the topic of anti-fascism. Apart from being introduced to research methodologies and communication/anti-propaganda tools\, they will learn how to use non-formal education tools in order to reflect on the forms and history of facism\, new danerous trends in societies and the means to resist them. \nDates\, platform\, methodology\, experts’ team and draft program of the training course\nThe training will take place from 3rd to 12th of April 2021 and the team will use the ZOOM platform to interact between 2 and 4 hours daily in the mentioned period. \nWithin 10 working days (the program envisages 2-4 working hours per day\, using non-formal learning methodology) the group will be able to: \n– gather a collection of coordination tools\, which will be used for the activities during the Remembrance Weeks \n– collect materials on the topic from the different national contexts \n– define the scope and framework of a research on the topic\, receive tips on research methodologies \n– set the outlines of a media campaign on the topic \n– contribute to the report of the activity. \nThe participants are required to be available for the whole duration of the training\, taking part in all the plenary and small group sessions\, as well as pair and individual tasks. The methods used during the training will follow the non-formal learning methodology: working in small groups\, discussions in plenary\, brainstorming\, presenting\, role play\, simulations\, etc. The team of trainers will consist of international experienced trainers\, facilitators and experts. \nProfile of the participants\nThe profile of the candidate should be the following: \n\nAge 18+\nAble to understand and express themselves in English;\nPolitically or/and socially active;\nHave and/or willing to gain experience in coordinating international activities (such as Workcamps\, Peace weeks or Remembrance Weeks) and ready to organize the Remembrance week in their country on the topic of the project;\nCommitted to attend for the full duration of the online training\nVolunteers\, activists and youth workers/coordinators who want to learn more about innovative communication methodologies and effective tools to protect refugees and national minorities from organised violence;\nWilling to learn more about the evolution of fascism\, effects and consequences of the ideology in the current situation;\nWilling to share experiences and stories from their local environment\, family\, friends and school (university) regarding to unfair attitude to refugees\, national minorities and other;\nWilling to be open-minded and eager to learn from the workshops in this activity and from their peers\, as well as maintain a positive attitude and a critical approach to the problematics and topics that will be reviewed;\nAre committed to assist or take the lead role in planning and implementing local initiatives in order to disseminate the learning outcomes.\n\nApplication procedure\nThe detailed call for participants can be found here. \nIf you are interested in participating\, apply by 15 March 2021 filling in the online application form. \nYou can reach us on the following e-mail: trainings@cvs-bg.org if you have further questions.

SUMMARY:Develop or self-develop?
DESCRIPTION:Background of the seminar\nColonialism created the political and economic context\, in which we live today: Some countries have accumulated resources and wealth over centuries\, while other countries have been colonised\, their resources exploited\, their cultures destroyed and their people murdered\, marginalised and structurally discriminated against. Countries of the Global South are still today disadvantaged in their participation in the global economy and in international organisations – and people of colour still face discrimination based on the concept of “race”\, which was made up by the colonisers. In order to change the heritage of colonialism\, we need to create global justice. \nInternational volunteering takes place in this context: White Europeans go as international volunteers to the Global South\, often with neo-colonial motivations of imposing Western values and mindsets onto local realities. In this seminar\, international volunteering and youth organisations will gather to discuss\, learn and exchange about this issue. Some questions that we ask ourselves and that we would like to discuss in this seminar are: \n\nHow can we as international volunteering organisations respond to colonial mindsets and motivations of volunteers and make them aware in an appropriate way about the power structures at hand?\n(How) Can we work with ideas of “development” and “self-development” in a constructive way?\nHow do we make volunteers active citizens around global justice rather than passive believers of colonial narratives of developing\, helping and saving?\nHow do we as critical volunteering NGOs relate to commercial organisations around us that do not critically prepare volunteers (“volontourism”) – should we compete with\, ignore\, collaborate with or train them?\n\nAs an outcome\, we will create a new 4th version of the toolkit “Picturing the Global South: The Power Behind Good Intentions”\, which SCI Austria has been creating with a series of post-colonial seminars in the past few years. \n  \nThe online seminar\nThe seminar “Develop or self-develop – Who is the volunteer in relation to colonial history?” will take place on 12-14 March and 18-21 March 2021 from 13:30-17:00 Central European Time (CET) (find out what this is in your time zone here) on the video platform Zoom with an optional evening hangout as well as with individual tasks to do in the morning. \nYou need a good internet connection that works with video calls\, a camera and microphone. If your internet connection is too slow for video calls\, please let us know in the application form and we might be able to cover the costs for a better connection for you for the time of the project.\nIt is crucial for us that you are motivated to participate throughout the whole project\, that you are not missing on any day of the project. \n  \nParticipant’s profile\nThe participants will be staff\, activists and volunteers from volunteering and youth organisations. All participants will be expected and stimulated to contribute to the activities and discussions. They are very welcome and invited to come up with their own ideas and present some methods or workshops they are experienced in and they want to share. DESCRIPTION:Dates to be confirmed\n \nIn this seminar\, youth workers and staff from volunteering organisations around Europe will take a closer look at what we do\, when we culturalize our non-formal education programs\, our energizers\, our support and training structures and our free time activities. This reflection often also applies to the work done in local youth centers\, where energizers also use stereotypes and young people with different “cultural backgrounds” can be ascribed roles because of their background.  \nSCI and its partners in this project have over the last years played actively with creating activities and approaches that avoid exactly this reproduction of stereotypes in jokes\, games\, educational activities and conversations between the participants. Through the seminar we aim to exchange and create a set of alternative approaches that instead of emphasising the differences put the spot light on what makes us all European and human.  \n  \nThe objectives of the project are the following: \n\nReflect on the term “culture” and its relations to other terms such as country\, ethnicity etc.\nUnderstand the intersectional identity of individuals that go beyond national or “cultural” identity and include others like gender\, class\, education\, age etc.\nTake a closer look at the term “culture” in intercultural learning\, and how this can include looking at subcultures as well\nReflect on European values that connect us and the “culture of peace and non-violence” that SCI proposes\nCreate an approach to the get-to-know phase in international youth exchanges that uses “cultural” references at a minimal level if at all\nReflect on methods such as intercultural evenings and similar in their effects on young people and their perception of culture and Europe\nDevelop NFE methods to address “culture” in youth exchanges and other youth work settings in an alternative way\nNetwork\nPromote Erasmus+\, NFE and international youth work\nCreate guidelines for other youth workers\nPresent the results of our discussions in a public presentation for youth workers and other stakeholders\nPromote a European identity and awareness amongst youth

SUMMARY:Wilderness Area Dürrenstein meets Thayatal National Park
DESCRIPTION:Wilderness Dürrenstein & Thayatal National Park seek to protect the unique forest and landscape\, endangered organisms and habitats\, whereas the natural processes are allowed to unfold without human intervention. \nThe area of the Wilderness Dürrenstein was expanded repeatedly\, increasing the area of protected land to 3.500 hectares. Until this great accomplishment in some parts of these areas invasive plants have already been introduced unintentionally. We will remove invasive plants in order to prevent irreversible anthropogenic effects on the ecosystem.
