Who are we?
SCI Austria is the Austrian branch of Service Civil International (SCI), an international peace organisation dedicated to fostering a culture of peace through volunteer projects and peace education. We aim to connect individuals from diverse backgrounds, promoting solidarity, peace, and mutual understanding. Founded in 1920 by Swiss peace activist Pierre Ceresole, SCI has been a leader in advocating for non-violent, community-based change. SCI Austria operates from Vienna, engaging in international volunteer initiatives that reflect the core values of peace, equality, and social justice.
Project Background:
The urgency of climate change is clear, yet we must go beyond awareness to make real progress. ClimeART is an innovative project that merges artistic expression with climate activism, creating a platform for youth workers, artists, and climate activists to unite and engage in meaningful action.
This project recognizes the emotional weight that accompanies the awareness of climate change: fear, frustration, and uncertainty. By channeling these emotions into artistic forms of expression, we provide participants with a creative outlet for transformation, guiding them from emotional turmoil to inspired action.
Through ClimeART, we aim to move beyond traditional forms of awareness-raising. Our goal is to use art as a powerful tool for communication, turning public spaces into platforms for climate activism. Art transcends words, connecting individuals with the urgent need for action and a shared vision for a sustainable future.
Project Objectives:
- Enhance public understanding of climate change through artistic expression.
- Equip participants with key skills in artistic expression, project management, and advocacy to improve their contributions to climate activism.
- Use art to transform fear and frustration about climate change into inspiration and action.
- Foster creativity and engage young people in the climate movement.
- Develop artistic projects in public spaces that foster empathy, raise awareness, and promote climate action.
- Demonstrate how art can catalyse social change and unite communities in collective activism.
Expected Outcomes:
- A collective theatre street action that will be recorded and shared online, highlighting creative responses to climate change.
- Participants will acquire practical skills in artistic expression, project management, and advocacy, allowing them to become effective climate activists.
- Establish lasting connections among youth workers, artists, and climate activists to facilitate future joint initiatives.
