Introduction to International Death Penalty Abolition

International Death Penalty Abolition Workshop

Join us on 9 July to learn about the international death penalty abolition movement.

Many countries that still use the death penalty claim it helps prevent crime. But research does not support this idea. On an international level, the death penalty is often used against people from racial, ethnic, or religious minorities. It has also been used as a means of silencing political opponents.

This workshop aims to challenge the myths that support the death penalty. We will explore how we can work together toward international death penalty abolition, using a decolonial approach. Fighting for the abolition of the death penalty means calling for an end to all executions—not just for people we believe are innocent, but for everyone on death row.

This workshop is being led by Frances Currie, our summer intern. Frances has spent the past two years working with Justice for Keith LaMar, an organization focused on ending the death penalty and getting Keith LaMar off of death row.
