CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS: “VIENNA URBAN ECOLOGY SAFARI” – E+ FUNDED SEMINAR

📆7-14 July 2026 |📍Vienna, Austria | Erasmus +

🏡🏫 Join an exciting opportunity that explores the city as a living ecosystem!

ABOUT

What if the city became a classroom?

In an urbanised and further urbanising world, the city will further become the only environment many people on our planet know well. Luckily, a lot of ecology can be understood and experienced within the urban space. Vienna Urban Ecology Safari is a 6-day immersive course in Vienna that explores the city as a living ecosystem. Through walking, observation, collective mapping, dialogue, imagination, and non-formal education methods, participants will investigate the relationships between ecology, society, and space, engaging with themes such as biodiversity, climate adaptation, public space, environmental justice, and the coexistence of human and more-than-human life.

REQUIREMENTS

We are looking for 20 motivated participants from Europe and beyond (preferably aged 22+). We welcome participants from diverse professional and personal backgrounds, especially:

  • Youth workers and youth leaders active in environmental education, community work, or eager to integrate sustainability and place-based learning into their practice.
  • Educators and teachers interested in outdoor learning, non-formal education, and creative ways of connecting people with the urban environment.
  • NGO staff and community organisers working on ecology, climate, food, public space, inclusion, participation, or local development.
  • Artists and cultural practitioners who explore relationships between people, place, ecology, and the more-than-human world.
  • Gardeners, foragers, growers, and food practitioners interested in urban food systems, biodiversity, community gardens, and ecological ways of producing and sharing food.
  • Activists, facilitators, and changemakers who want to develop new methods to read, experience, and teach the city through an ecological lens.

No advanced academic background is required. The course is open to both experienced practitioners and motivated learners who are curious, reflective, and willing to explore Vienna through walking, observation, exchange, and experimentation. We strongly encourage applications from people living in urban areas, as well as individuals facing social and/or economic obstacles.

FINANCIAL CONDITIONS

This is an international Erasmus+ seminar funded by the Austrian Erasmus+ National Agency for Youth as part of an accreditation project in the field of youth (2021-2027). Thanks to Erasmus+ funding, board, lodging, travel and activities are covered. There is no participation fee for this training. Travel costs will be reimbursed afterwards to an agreed limit, depending on the sending country. We strongly encourage green travel and will support you with advice and planning. Other necessary expenses, such as visa fees, will be reimbursed after approval by the organisers.
