Description
The project in collaboration with our partner @uvikiuta_tanzania is based on Mafia Island, a Tanzanian archipelago in the Indian Ocean, and promotes a sustainable way of life through environmental activities, climate education and engagement with the local community. The initiative combines theoretical reflection with practical work, addressing issues such as sustainability, biodiversity, the local economy and the responsible management of natural resources.
Activities involved
Volunteers take part in practical activities and environmental awareness initiatives:
- setting up and managing tree nurseries for reforestation
- planting trees in public areas across the island
- cleaning beaches and communal spaces
- waste management and recycling initiatives
- organising workshops and campaigns on climate change
- creative activities involving sport, art, music and community events
- taking part in training sessions on sustainability and community life
Study Part
The project explores issues relating to sustainable development, permaculture, biodiversity and global environmental impact. Volunteers will also reflect on the relationship between local communities, the economy and environmental protection.
Accommodation and Food
Volunteers stay at the organisation’s youth centre in shared rooms with basic facilities. Meals are prepared together and are mainly based on local produce. Vegetarian options are also available.
Requirements
- 20+
- Willingness to live a simple, communal life;
- Willingness to participate actively in the project’s practical activities and educational initiatives about environmental awareness;
- Contribution of EUR 300 per month, covering accommodation, food, and project costs;
- Travel expenses and visa costs are not included.
