SCI Italy is seeking one long-term volunteer through the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) for their “Social Project Development and Youth Work” project. ESC is a program of the European Union and is funded by the European Commission. The ESC offers young people (aged 18 to 30) the opportunity to participate in non-profit projects in their own country or abroad. The projects last from 2 to 12 months and are free of charge.
The project takes place at “La Città dell’Utopia,” a social lab of volunteers and activists who organise events, courses, workshops, and more to promote inclusivity, connection, and social justice. The building is used to host several groups and associations working on active citizenships, especially in relation to migration, environmental sustainability, antifascism, gender, and self-determination of food and consumption.

Description
The volunteer will update, collect, and organize data related to volunteering and youth initiatives, as well as crafting communication materials and helping facilitate non-formal education events. They will take part in storytelling initiatives for volunteering experiences and research on European programmes. The volunteer will also host an educational course for the neighbourhood and carry out a unique personal project.
Activities involved
- Preparing, updating and organising project documentation and databases
- Assisting in the collection and analysis of good practices, educational resources and project outcomes
- Creating and disseminating materials promoting the values of solidarity, active citizenship, intercultural dialogue and youth participation
- Collecting participants’ feedback, testimonies and learning outcomes
- Assisting in the organisation and facilitation of courses and workshops
- Contributing to storytelling activities, the preparation of articles, interviews and digital content highlighting volunteers’ experiences and the social impact of projects
- Communicating with partner organisations and international networks
- Assisting in research on European programmes and funding opportunities
- Participating in team meetings, reflection sessions and learning activities
- Contributing ideas and proposals for the improvement of activities and projects
- Supporting the communication area of “La Città dell’Utopia” during its big annual events
- Running a course for the neighbourhood (language, music, IT or any other skill)
- Developing a personal project following the lines of the project and the hosting organisation.
Accommodation & Food
In a separate flat in “La Città dell’Utopia,” with three shared double rooms (up to six international volunteers) kitchen, living room, and bathroom. The accommodation has all the basic facilities (Wi-Fi and washing machine included). The building is historic, so the accommodation is basic. There is no centralized heating or aircon, so it can be humid, cold in the winter, but also fresh in the summer. The building is surrounded by a very beautiful garden (which means mosquitos in the summer). It is located in a student area close to the metro.

English and Italian.
Requirements
- 18-30 years old
- Residence in one of the eligible countries (read the full call below for details)
- Interest in international youth work, volunteering, solidarity and non-formal education.
- Curiosity about European projects, international cooperation and youth participation.
- Motivation to learn how projects are developed, organised and evaluated, with the support of the team.
- Interest in topics such as active citizenship, human rights, peace, inclusion and intercultural dialogue.
- Confidence in using a computer for basic tasks, such as email, shared documents, Google Drive and simple spreadsheets, and willingness to learn new digital tools when needed.
- Good communication skills and openness to cooperate in an international and multicultural environment.
- Good command of English, spoken and written.
- Knowledge of Italian is welcome, but not required.
- Initiative, creativity and openness to proposing ideas.
