Description
SCI Nepal Bhaktapur is organizing the International Volunteer Camp at Shree Balmiki Basic School in the village of Jitpur Bageshwori near the historic city of Bhaktapur. Most of the students at the school come from underprivileged families, and this project aims to support the local community through educational, environmental, artistic, and cultural activities together with international volunteers.
Activities involved
Volunteers will be involved in various school, community and environmental activities, including:
- Painting classrooms and community spaces
- Gardening and tree planting
- Cleaning school areas and community parks
- Supporting environmental awareness campaigns
- Assisting local students through creative and educational activities
- Organizing peace education and cultural exchange sessions
- Participating in local cultural programs and traditional dances
- Volunteering during the Gai Jatra (Cow Carnival) Festival
- Eco-trek activities to nearby hills such as Bojini Dam and Nagarkot including trail cleaning and garbage collection
Accommodation & Food
Volunteers will stay in basic shared accommodation at a local school or community house. Facilities are simple and traditional. Basic kitchen, toilet, and shower facilities will be available.
Food will be mainly Nepali vegetarian and vegan meals such as Dal Bhat (rice, lentil soup, vegetables, pickles, etc.). Occasionally, local non-vegetarian food may also be available. Meals will often be prepared together by volunteers, creating a wonderful opportunity for cultural exchange. Volunteers are encouraged to bring traditional recipes, snacks, spices, or ingredients from their home countries to share with others.
During the Gai Jatra festival, volunteers may also have opportunities to taste traditional Newar festival foods while visiting local families in Nepal.

No special qualifications are required. The camp is open to motivated, creative, open-minded, and enthusiastic volunteers who are interested in:
