Description

The camp takes place in Aomori Prefecture, in northern Japan, in collaboration with NICE Japan. Activities are divided between Ajigasawa and Hiranai, two areas characterized by forests, nurseries, and natural environments typical of the island of Honshu. Volunteers support local projects for land care and forest resource management in a simple, rural setting rich in nature.

Activities

Volunteers will remove the snow fence at Shirakami Nature School, set up a plastic greenhouse, chop firewood, and dig and transport new saplings at the nursery. In Hiranai, work is carried out to remove dead saplings and replant new ones. The contents of the work might be changed due to weather conditions, so volunteers need to be flexible!

Study Part

The camp explores forest management in northern Japan, reforestation techniques, and the role of local communities in protecting the land. There will be opportunities to discuss the region’s environmental challenges and the sustainable practices adopted by NICE.

Accommodation

Shared room in school dormitory. Sleeping bag is needed! Meals will be cooked by volunteers by turns.
