SCI Switzerland is seeking a long-term volunteer to assist in evaluating and coordinating their volunteer camps. This position is through the European Voluntary Service programme, which is the equivalent of the ESC programme in Switzerland, funded by the Movetia agency. The programme was created to promote solidarity and a sense of community among younger people in Europe (and other partner countries).
Description
The volunteer will help evaluate and organise volunteer camps. You will gain skills in communications, financial management, and facilitating events or seminars. The volunteer may also have the opportunity to carry out their own project so long as it matches the values and goals of SCI Switzerland.
Activities involved
The volunteer will participate in many activities, including…
- Evaluating SCI Switzerland’s summer volunteer camps
- Placing volunteers in international camps
- Issuing certificates to past volunteers
- Updating SCI statistics from the international network
- Creating and editing SCI promotional materials
- Involvement with fundraising
- Participating in or co-leading non-formal events such as seminars, trainings, and living libraries.
- Helping plan and organize workshops
- Possibly carrying out your own project in collaboration with SCI Switzerland
Accommodation & Food
SCI Switzerland will rent a room in a campus for you and you get a budget for food. You will live together with other people in an apartment that are working or studying in Bern. You will also have your own room.
Funding
Movetia’s funding for the EVS programme covers:
- International travel costs (from 400CHF to 1000CHF for international travel depending on the destination)
- Accommodation provided
- Food budget (400CHF per month)
- Pocket money (250CHF per month)
- EV trainings (on arrival and mid-term) together with EVs from other organizations based in Switzerland
- Health insurance
- German lessons (optional)
- Continuous mentoring and support since arrival and throughout all the stay
- Final certification about the work done and competences acquired
The practical and logistic matters will be handled by your sending organisation. SCI Switzerland will organize all administrative matters like insurance and visa.

Requirements
SCI Switzerland is looking for a volunteer who is…
- 18-30 years old
- Good with English, and preferably also with French and/or German
- Diligent and detail-oriented, with good organizational skills and commitment to accuracy
- Open to get in touch with people
- Sharing SCI values and motivated for the work with people from different backgrounds
- Interested in office work as well as in participating in activities outside the office
